Have you asked your GC if he’ll be able to remove the counters, without breaking them? There may be an upcharge, if they have to be exrra careful during removal. There’s also no guarantee they won’t crack, despite his efforts.

If you can't find a place, what about reusing them yourself in a shed, outdoor table, garage, outdoor shelf, pavers?

I too have had a hard time reaching Habitat Restores and they often have so many restrictions about pick up that it isn't an option. Good old Craiglist is my go to. The free section. People will even take broken granite.

I found a wonderful guy to take my range that was broken. He wanted it for scrap. When he came we go to talking and he ended up taking my counters and all of my cabinets. He was a wonderful man from Haiti and had a few members from his church help with the pick up. They were going to use the materials in their church kitchen and were completely grateful.

Put them on facebook marketplace at a very cheap price. Some one will come and get them. I think a cheap price instead of free will filter out the unserious.

I want to congratulate you on thinking of repurposing your kitchen. One person’s trash is another’s treasure !

Darbuka has a good point - your contractor might upcharge for not smashing the countertops.

When I remodeled my previous kitchen my contractor took everything out carefully, including high end appliances that were 17 years old. I don't know if he donated or dumped them. I left it up to him to decide. I assume he reused as he was very careful with the demo.

I have had a hard time selling my granite and quartz displays. No one wants to be responsible for transporting them and we don't have the equipment to transport granite.

Recent display for sale: I was selling a basic island top....3cm Quartz w/ ogee edge, about 63x42. I started out at $400. No takers! People interested but wanted delivery and install. Dropped price to $200 just to get it out of our showroom so we could get the new top in. Again, no takers. Then when I was about to give up hope, a guy walks in ask for a laminate countertop price. I told him no longer carry laminate but I could quote granite or quartz. I asked him what size? He said, "oh about 63x40". He was a handy guy and built something out of 2x4s to transport it carefully. He got a deal...and we got it out of the showroom.

You might also ask the countertop fabricator for your new tops if they can rework them and install them in other areas of your house...bathroom vanities, basement rec room...etc.

I've done that for several clients.

I didn't know that Habitat took stone. I'll have to check my local Restore. I somehow really doubt they do. Too much liability!

It would be perfect for a counter in an outdoor kitchen maybe plan one those and use some of it there .

I advertised by older white cabinets and venetian gold granite on one of the sale apps, maybe facebook martketplace back on 2017 and was able to sell them for I think $600. this was in the DFW area, i think the couple who bought them came all the way from east Texas.

Ann, I wonder how far they got before granite cracked. Would have been a miracle if they didn't. Fabbers ship them upright (vertically). If you lay them flat in a truck, risk of cracking during transportation.

Years ago, I was hired to remove some perfectly fine granite countertops so the lady could install garbage concrete. I was so disgusted by the waste that I vowed never again.

If you can get stone removed safely for free, take the deal please.

I've re-installed recycled granite and solid surface; it pushes the boundaries of cost-effectiveness.

Who knows if the granite or the cabinets survived the trip? I will say they seemed like a ”can do” couple so I would guess they were going to make it work one way or another.
