Where is it in the home ? My first though was some shelving for some nice pieces you might own but I need context .

Do you use it as a computer desk? What else is in the room?

Please don't mind mess/piles (I am attempting to organize/get rid of things)....but here is some context....

I would fill it with big plants, but that's not everyone's thing.

I would place a TALL table lamp to illuminate the corner, and add a few plants and the telephone(?) to this ledge area. Additionally, I would hang a set of coordinated prints on the wall

Your draperies should be hung at the ceiling and I would install at least a solid panel at each end.

If you have an accent color for this area you could use in for the drapery panels and the backdrop wall. Your space could be so much more than what you have done with it so far.

Get rid of the mess underfoot, tidy up the whole room. Take more pictures, all angles. For now? You are focused on the wrong thing.

We do mind the mess! It makes it impossible to see what is , or what could be. Finish what you began, purge , sort, organize remove the clutter and return. Cleaned up :: )

I appreciate that this was a spontaneous set of photos taken during the middle of a reorganizing/purging project. But I do agree with Jan that it's difficult for us to tell what goes and what stays, how the room is used, and how the rest of the room feels.

I did not know how serious this app was and will look elsewhere for any suggestions/ideas in the future.

I also would add framing and drywall to the ceiling. Or you could use part of the depth and and recess a cabinet on top and drywall the remainder,

Here's what it would look like framed in on both sides. You would actually gain storage between the lower and upper stairs without losing a thing in the room itself, since they are both currently dead spaces.

If you don't want to close off the area in between, here is what it would look like closed off over the flat area.

I think all posters here need to remeber you are getting free advice often from pros and you can take what you need from that and ignore the rest . We take our time to answer and remember if you don't want an answer don't ask the question I think you got some good advice take it or leave it .

I really like Pal's idea, and you could turn it into hidden storage.

Some of us can see through clutter, don't worry about that.
