Picking colors in a vacuum with no context is not really a good approach. Feather Down is a VERY light, very neutral color, so your priority should be to select colors for the adjacent rooms that work with what is going on in those rooms, not to work with the color in the hallway.

Have a plan for each of those rooms and then select a color that works with the upholstery, furniture, and other items in the room. Wall color is the last choice you make when decorating a room.

So it doesnt matter if each room does coordinate with the hosue as a whole?

Yes, it does matter, but Feather Down is almost white, so there's less to be concerned about. You probably should devise a whole house palette based on colors that you really like. For example my preferred palette is blues/reds/greens. All my rooms have varying amounts of these colors, not just in the wall color, but in the rugs, upholstery, lamps, curtains, and accessories. Most of the wall colors are either Linen White or Dove White, unless they are wallpapered. My hallways are wallpapered in multi-colored papers so each adjacent room has 2 or 3 colors from the wallpaper. Since your hallways are essentially white, you don't need to worry as much. Is your home an open layout? Even if it's not, the downstairs/public rooms are usually more open to each other than the bedrooms, so it's more important that the colors flow between and among those rooms, less important in the bedrooms off a hallway in the private area of the house.

Yes thank you very much our downstairs is somewhat open- its not fully open concept but all rooms have openings into each other and you can see into all rooms.

This is so helpful. I want to do green, blue and a terracotta type of color as well! I guess I just was not sure how to figure out if these go with each other and which shades to pick. My furniture is all so neutral i think it can go with anything. Sounds like I need some decor first.

Or you could start with a rug that has your colors, and work the room around that.

Why? Because let's say you're sitting in your living room.....and you're gazing into your dining room across the hall. A vista, so to speak. You actually notice MORE of your dining room, than that living room you are sitting in!

That sounds weird doesn't it? : ) But making a big poster board, as you plot wall color and a rug or fabric, and tacking ideas on the big layout board you created, even doing this room by room and laying those on the floor in a mimic layout.....very helpful for staying on the path you want!

We've no idea your style - in a bedroom it can be very helpful to start with bedding. Or a rug.

It's not just walls.......other things carry a color! As below, there's the terracotta....could be walls a you've elsewhere!

Or..... a moodier blue

Lets say you're in your office....you want a warm and cozy terracotta.....and a rug. See that first color in the last row? what SORT of rug: )? Something like this? Notice the terracotta, is not the major color in that rug.....it's the blue.

In other words as you see - it's more than the paint.
