Peren, you have a good memory! This was the bed from my prior "Hostas on a slope" thread. Here is a pic of the first plantings in June 2022 after I amended in 18 bags of pine bark fines to the bed.

Chamagardener, that is a beautiful bed! I love how you moved things around and planted the flowers and bushes in with all. It has a really pleasing shape to the eye…..it flows.

Are the bushes dwarf varieties??

Nice! I particularly like the foliage juxtaposition of the hakone grass and hostas.

Yes I too love hostas with hakone grass. I put them in a front bed once - I don't have photos of the side of the bed with the two side by side, but here is one where they are at least together. Love the wide leaves with the fine grass leaves!

Thanks mxk. That bed above, I eventually had to make it bigger and move everything. That customer must have had great soil because everything I planted there did phenomenally well - I actually had to extend that bed *twice* to allow for everything, and even took out a few things. And I researched and measured carefully before planting. I always told her I wished my own garden would grow so well!

The bushes are 4ever Goldy arborvitae, Fire Chief arborvitae and I think Yellow Ribbon Arborvitae. I don't know if they count as dwarf but they seem pretty slow growing. Everything in that bed is on notice they may be cut back or exiled if they don't play well with others. There is also an Ogi Tsuma Gaki and Peve Starfish Japanese Maple in there and they are dwarf.

The evergreen bushes are nice to have in the winter.

chamaegardener you've got some nice selections there. I've been looking at some gold chamaecyparises but maybe that Forever Goldy is a better choice for my purpose. And I love the little Fire Chief - beautiful coloring!
