Why doesn't the layout work - what problems are you having?

Something about the look of it seems off to me. Not sure if it’s the color or the furniture itself

What style do you like? Maybe put a few rooms in an idea book to give us an idea of what looks good to you.

I added some to an idea book. Looks like my original book was set to private so I unlocked it. My style is more modern farmhouse and transitional

Where do you want to see the back of the sofa? From the kitchen area? From the front door? From the double french doors?

This will give you an idea of where to put a sofa(not a sectional).

Is that fireplace mantel necessary? It makes the fireplace look awkward.

Beef up the curtains - by adding at least one more panel to each side.

Consider a new rug and a coffee table.

The proportions are all a little off. Lower the mantle so the amount of stone is equal on all three sides. Curtains need to be lower and fuller- don’t gather them. You desperately need a coffee table. I’m not a fan of sectionals so I would do a sofa where the sectional is with four chairs, two on each side. Small tables between the chairs. Honestly it’s a pretty space but it needs to be tweaked.

Beef up and lower the curtains as mentioned and don't use the “holdbacks”.

The off stuff for me is the tv higher than I find comfortable for viewing. I'd try is on the side of the fireplace. Quite a bit lower. The mantle is too high for its mass. The dark curtain rods are too standout where they are on the wall If they were a lot lower and in the same shade as the curtains or wall, Using the same color would allow some decorative scope with a valance or other sculptural affect.

@Hallett is on to something here. There is something off, and it's fixable.

Because of your high ceiling, you're trying to fill that upper space, or at least the middle part of it. It gives an uncomfortable feel. Ignore the upper part, and place your wall art as if it were a normal 8 or 9 foot ceiling. To start with, hang your art work so the middle of it is at 5 feet. Or, if the art work is too tall for that, hang it so the bottom is 6 inches above the cabinets. Remove the decor items from the cabinets - your art work will speak for itself.

Your curtains are also too high. The rod should be just a bit above the molding.

The tall fireplace is a more challenging fix, but it should be much lower, and with a smaller mantle.
