flooring dilemma with open house plan

I am remodeling my cabinets and putting in new flooring. When we bought this house, we liked it because of the colors but now living here for seven years it’s too dark in the kitchen. I currently have espresso cabinets that we are thinking about going with white transitional looking cabinets with a 2step inlay. We also have a large island that we are unsure if we should turn it around. I am having a wall oven with a microwave and then just a cooktop. The refrigerator is staying where it is I will be upgrading my dishwasher. The question we have is what to do with our flooring because it’s an open plan. I do like large ceramics tiles (grout less) and I’ve seen pictures where they have it right where the appliances and cabinets and and then I was gonna do wood flooring throughout the house. But I’ve had a few cabinet designers come in and two of them are telling me that I should have tiles all the way to where my kitchen table is like the whole entire kitchen and dining area and then do wood flooring throughout the rest of the home. I have read that with open plans , if you are doing 2 different flooring , one should be 70% the same. Hence , the dilemma.

Use the hardwood everywhere, no need for tile.

I hope the lighting is being addressed

I have an open floor plan and one type of floors, engineered white oak. To me, it makes the space look bigger and brighter.

Is there a brand that you like? This flooring was done by the builder about 10 years ago, but I had a faucet leak and now it bubbled and I have to replace the flooring and the cabinets. My planks do have seams and I’m wondering if the newer brands are better. I’m torn between hard wood and engineered.

Are you on a slab or raised foundation? If you are on a slab engineered is the only easy option. Are you open to replacing all the floors or is the insurance only allowing for partial replacement and you have to keep the existing dark floors in other areas?

After major analysis paralisis and numerous trips to the flooring store, we decided on Mirage Flooring, Muse collection. We wanted at least 2 mm wear layer, 3mm preferred, light and matte. Pic is from the flooring store. There are so many colors with so many nuances, I would recommend bringing home lots of samples to look at in your lighting.

It’s on a foundation, we are going to do the whole entire flooring and put our own money in towards it.

We went to the flooring last week and what a headache. So many choices ! I want it to look elegant, and we have it in our basement, but it’s more casual and I want to make sure it’s elegant looking. But that is what I’ll do… again! Thank you !
