We are well on our way with another project we started last year. The former owner installed two of these Minka Aire Designer Fans to hang over a large cavernous space (there are two). There are several problems:

1. The controls are on the second floor behind a Master Bedroom. Without doing massive rewiring, we can't change it, but we would like to get a remote and install it on the second floor. Apparently, this fan did not come with a receiver for a remote and receivers are usually installed at the junction box in the ceiling along with the fan. I'm not sure if the receiver Minka sells will work with this one anyway.

2. The control to change direction is only on the fan itself, which is about 15 ft off the ground.

Question:

1. Has anyone ever retrofitted a Minka Aire Design Fan to accommodate a remote? Retrofitting requires the same amount of work for us as installing new ones: Renting really high ladders, taking down the current fans, and installing the remotes and hoping it works.

2. If were were to consider replacing both fans, is there a fan whose direction is controllable with a remote?
