Why does the builder say they can’t do 8’ door?

They technically can but they have to add a customer header. Al my other exterior doors are 8’ I’ll post a pic

The door has an arched transom and 2 sidelights. I’m debating removing the arched transom and just have a taller door and the 2 sidelights.

I think the arched transom looks odd.

Lose the transom, then he should be able to do an 8' tall door.

Go with the 8 ft front door to match your other doors. Skip the arched transom ... which was very popular in 1990s builder spec homes.

Also if you have space, go with a 42" wide front door.

There is soething bothering me about the size of the windows. On the first floor it looks like the sill is the floor and the top of the window stops a foot short of the ceiling. It creates drama but I am not sure if this is the house or site for such drama. I am guessing the other three elevations are rather mundane. As if done by the designer to tickle their own fancy on the most visable facade rather than an appropriate response to the site or a solution to the owner's needs. I could be wrong.

I appreciate your comment. I love the large windows as both rooms on the main floor are office/crafting areas facing north so we wanted to as much natural light as possible.

I love large windows too, but make sure you think about what can be seen from outside when windows are placed close to the ground ... the ugly back side of a desk/console, back of a sofa, the pile of stuff you placed on the floor till you get time to sort through it, etc.
