Hardwick white or smoke and mirrors with a patterned tile or ivory white to match walls

I would keep the fireplace neutral then put some decorative tiles around the opening and maybe hearth. Beautiful windows and view. Wow!

Farrow & Ball paint is my favorite but it can be chamelionlike so I suggest get a sample of it & try it on your fireplace. The color you chose looks neutral to my untrained eye. i have F & B ”Mole’s Breath” on my fireplace which would probably be too dark for you. You might want to check out the Samsung Frame for a TV since it has to go over the fireplace, ”art” when it’s not on. we ordered the wood frame for it.

It's an unfortunate location for a TV. Way too high

Match wall color but use flat or matte on walls and satin or semigloss on fireplace..it has alot of presence in the room already with the wood slats. use color in your accessories, wall art and pillows…you have a neutral canvas to have fun with!

We love our neutral fireplace…so calming

I would do as Home Interiors with Ease suggests (although I tend to favor eggshell finish on walls - that is sort of a matte).

If you decide to go with a color, stick with something subtle and make sure that it is the same color temperature (ie warm or cool) as the walls.

That TV is going to be really high. Make sure you have an articulating mount so the TV screen can be tilted down or consider a mantel mount.

Oh darn is there anyother spot for TV? can you show us the entire room

Here I just put a sample of the wall color in a semi gloss on the fireplace ... the walls will be eggshell once the final coat goes on. It is a bummer spot for the tv but we will have another tv room. The only other thing I can think of is to put the tv in front of the windows maybe 🤔 or under the loft area but that would take some work and creativity with furniture so idk 🤷‍♀️

What will be here? a beautiful tv console would be oerfect on this wall.

Then it gets into the round dining table area is the problem. I'm about to draw it out and see if I can do it

Beverly, are you suggesting we change our ceiling fan to white ? I had been considering it but every change costs so much time, money and heartache 🤷‍♀️ is 52 the right size that we put up ?

@Katie Mapes Do I understand correctly that your fireplace bump out is paintable and you are not putting stone on it? Did I understand correctly that you would like some green in your house; that you are a little concerned you will end up with an all-beige house?

How about a black for the fireplace that has green undertones? Black will create a strong contrast that supports the idea that this fireplace area is a major focal point. Black as the backgound to a tv and the black hole created by the fireplace will make both stick out less as visual clutter (as will a black mantle). Black will tie into the black window grills and tie the two together, also drawing attention to the windows, your other major focal point.

For the walls, your room shape calls for a pale near-white color. It could have any undertone that will fit with your color scheme for the room and will nicely contrast with your chosen "green black". A warmer cream might be nice with the black with green undertones.

I like your furniture arrangement, generally. I hope you will select contemporary furniture to suite your very contemporary house. Think about your overall color scheme when choosing your furniture. If you choose a cream for the walls, pick it up again with a warm wood or English leather chair or sofa. If you choose a green black for the fireplace area, think about a sage green or olive-green piece or area rug.

We have the same set up with door to the left and wall on the right…is each square a foot on your diagram?

I don't care much for contemporary style even tho you might not be able to tell from looking at this particular home! I like the idea of dark moody colors but when it comes to actually using them I'm pretty sure I'm sticking with ivory white for the walls and the fireplace

Are you able to hold off on deciding on the fireplace’s color, its mantle and potentially the tv’s location, until room is furnished. What you choose and where things are placed can drive decisions. In the meantime, pour over on line inspiration rooms and save your favorites.

Idea for the side, or add a chair with art above (moving chair at Christmas for the tree).

You can do the TV like HIWE suggests - just choose one swivel chair across from it by the sofa (instead of the 2) and get the TV on the wall with an arm so it can angle when you watch TV. And I would keep the FP in an ivory. Now you have to think mantle or no, art or mirror etc over the FP….and a great moss green sofa and a rug with some neutrals and greens would be nice for some color.

I can see what you mean! I can look for the actual furniture and then see how it should be arranged and look! I have been looking at inspiration rooms and thinking about this project for way too long but it is an enjoyable problem to have. I don't know what I'll do when our house is done 😆

Think design live . Yes ! Interiors with ease had me thinking of something like you describe so I was trying to draw it out and it just seems like a bummer not to be able to see the tv from the couch 🛋️ but then again it would be a bummer to try and watch it mounted above the fireplace as well so which is better!? At least this way you have one good solid chair to sit and watch the tv plus pretty good view from the small dining table.

I wasn't sure of the mount thing that can tilt the tv although I'm sure my husband will be on top of that! I just think how will that work with the art tv 😜

I suppose I can compromise on making it an art tv if I get my fireplace for art ! Like Maureen said I was actually browsing online to see what large swivel chair can work there or maybe 2 small swivels

It is funny because I really have a vision of putting a large Christmas tree next to that fireplace so that is one reason I hesitate to put the tv and cabinet. The other reason is because the tv would have to be off center with the small loft area above it although I'm not sure that is actually an issue !

We ignored the pro’s and mounted the tv over the fireplace anyway… I’ve regretted it ever since. My neck/headache reminds me each time that I should have listened. We watch it mainly in the bedroom now.

Jazz I just said that to the old man yesterday haha. I said go ahead and then come tell me a few months from now how we made a mistake by doing so. For some reason he thinks I'm trying to change the tv spot to make the tv less visible in the room when actually I'm trying to make it work so we have a better tv view. This house build has been a long difficult process and as we are nearing completion (or at least we were nearing completion until we decided to make some changes in other rooms in the house )I think he's just worn out and the thought of any more changes is too much for him haha. He works all day and builds this at night plus we have small children and other obligations as most people do! This has been an interior without ease 🤔😳 But if I draw it out and show it to him he can at least see!

Jazz also we will have a tv in the bedroom and In our current rental we all tend to gravitate to our master bedroom together to watch tv at night 🤔 we will also have a tv out in the sunroom so to me that seems like even more of a reason not to "waste" the fireplace by mounting a tv over it. I've never had a fireplace and I was looking forward to art up there as opposed to a tv. Although there isn't a view of the front of the fireplace when you walk in the room so idk if it's that important to have art on the darn thing or not 🤷‍♀️

Katie, yea I get it. At some point they just don’t want to hear anything else. At least you have room/options to the right as we really didn’t have that room in there and a corner mount would not have looked right. It is what it is and we just don’t sit and watch too long. I know you’re tired but you’re almost there so hang in there! It’s going to be amazing no matter what you do and if it’s over the fireplace then yes, as low as possible or angled tilt brackets to make it better. Good luck. Hi there! Just want to share I was at a home yesterday with a fireplace similar (shiplap) style like yours. What I noticed is that it likely wasn’t primed with the right primer before painted white because I could see many spots where dark spots were starting to bleed through. Something to look into maybe. Your home looks so pretty, will look for updates as your journey ahead!

I'm not sure if it's much better next to the fireplace because of the loft off center above with the pantry door in such a spot under the loft it all looks off to me but it would probably be better tv viewing from the swivel chair for sure !👍

Good Morning….hi Katie….playing around with furniture..I would do a larger sofa…add one large comfy swivel on both sides of sofa..move sofa back….larger rug is needed..10x14…all furniture legs should be on rug….I would do a rectangle coffee table…add two small cube ottomans that have castors that can sit in front of the fireplace….and can be moved around as needed for extra seating and can be pulled up to coffee table.

Here is my entire room set up works great for entertaining and watching tv..the black tweed chair is a comfy swivel..that turns towards the tv when in use. A slender console could go in front of your beautiful windows.

I like HIWE’s plan but if the window behind your plans smaller sofa is where it’s you may need to get creative with art placement to balance the window/larger sofa situation.

Think design life yes those windows were a result of all the previously mentioned changes we were making during framing and eventually my husband got fed up and said that's where all the windows and doors are staying so deal with it ... It sounds like a fun challenge to figure art to balance it. I think I've learned throughout this build that some things are fun to figure out while others are better left to the pros

I'm excited for this furniture arrangement... it is just better than mine was even in the case we did leave the tv above the fireplace it is just better. I'm pretty excited about those little ottomans on costers and for the skinny console table thanks again design with ease and everyone
