Top tread is deeper than all the rest

I’m converting carpeted stairs to oak treads and painted risers. The top horizontal surface of the stringer is about a 1/2 deeper than all others. For clarity, this is where the top tread is placed before one steps up and onto the second floor. The tread in that position will therefore be a 1/2 deeper than the rest. By building the riser out from the dimensional lumber header by about 1/8” I can get the variance of the top tread down to 3/8” deeper than the rest in order to meet code.

House is in US and built in late 80’s for those who like to know.

Searching, I did come across an AI-generated blurb that said that making the fist step or tread down from the second floor a bit wider than the rest is a design choice intended to make it safer and/or more comfortable to move from the second floor to the stairs. Question: Was it (and is it still) common to do this or was it a mistake by someone? Is it ok to make that same tread wider when using oak?

I predict no one will notice that tread being deeper than the rest.

The only alternative I can think of is to build the top riser out a full 1/2 from the header, which shortens my total run by a 1/2 and so shortens each tread by about .08” or sixteenth and a half per tread. FYI, code back then allowed for 9” treads (riser to riser) for a total tread depth of 10” each with a 1” overhang. Mine a smidge more than minimum.
