Can you name this Hosta?

This is obviously an AI creation. These AI plants seem to be showing up more and more on the internet, and what's really shocking is the number of people who actually believe they are real! Im just interested in everyone elses opinions of them, and if you have any classic examples please feel free to share them, the more ridiculous, the better. I remember seeing a Cobra Lily that had a pitcher rim with what looked like a real live cobra, and their was a Flying Duck Orchid with flowers too duck-like to be real.

    Advertised as Hosta 'Candy Cane'.

How does it photosynthesize with no green leaves Lol?

    The real Hosta 'Candy Cane'.

    That is scary!

The really scary thing is when will we see pics of plants that have realistic tones of greens and flowers, and maybe also the correct leaf shapes & such, but are just wrong. Like mislabeled nursery stock, but worse.

I added a comment on another post saying these are scams……trying to get money from people who don’t know about plants and how they grow. It’s too bad, I imagine some people are losing money from these bogus sites.

They do AI with animals also. People have notified me that pics of birds and baby platypusses that I posted were AI creations. I find it all absurd, because no human can improve upon anything perfect that Mother Nature has created.

It’s sad that these people deliberately and easily scam the susceptible. sigh. My sister is one of the vulnerable, but at least she now sends me a msg first, telling me about some great thing she’s found and wondering if she should buy it. :)

btw, they don’t look like hosta flowers, either.

I haven't seen it lately, but for a while there was a photo-shopped (pre-AI) "rainbow" rose that popped up regularly on eBay. It literally had every color 'shopped onto its petals, including true blue, all on one rose. If people were falling for that, they'll fall for H. 'Candy Cane', too, lol.

EDIT: HA! Found it, and it seems to have several iterations now. Seems the photoshop hybridizers have been busy. I don't think any of these are AI generated, but if you haven't seen these...you HAVE to see these.

Even if they did exist, which obviously they don't, they're hideous.

Here’s the description from the rainbow rose. Is that really a thing? I’ve never tried. I guess I have a rose and some dyes… maybe today will be the day.

”Yes, rainbow-colored roses do exist, but it's important to note that they are not naturally occurring. Rainbow roses are created through a process called dyeing or coloring, where the cut stems of white roses are placed in water containing dyes. As the roses draw up the colored water, the petals take on different hues, resulting in a multi-colored or rainbow effect.

The dyeing process involves splitting the stem into several parts and placing each section into a separate container with a different colored dye. As the rose takes up water, the different colors are absorbed by the petals, resulting in a rainbow-like appearance. The dyeing process does not alter the genetics of the rose; it merely changes the color of the petals temporarily.”

AI often still has problems with details, like having too many fingers or arms. Here’s the closeup of the road showing the ”cars” and what seems to be a few sizable divots on the road.

Jay, your most recent examples are the kind that sucker in my sister and acquaintances on FB!

macranthos, the write-up on the "rainbow rose" is just silly. They exist but aren't natural. Right.

fwiw, I don't think that Candy Cane hosta image was AI generated because I've seen that photo of a red & white hosta going around for years! Most of this stuff is just done by easy manipulation of images.

It doesnt look real to me. It looks more like a nudibranch than an orchid?

These wildly colored “flowers” do look fake….. think they omit the part that tells people they are silk!! Lololo, 😆
