A more contemporary exterior

We need to update the siding in the front (stucco on the other sides). How can we give the house a more contemporary look overall?

That’s about as contemporary as you can get. I agree the landscaping is the area to make more contemporary.

IMO the siding is not contemporary and for sure not the color or the windows with grids . Waht is the plan and budget . The vertical strips on thr siding are just odd. The landscpaing a whole other part of transformation . The style of th house is modern but IMO that siding and windows need to go

I think a more contemporary feel will be hard to achieve if you don’t consider the house as a whole.

The chimney and section by walkway are big negatives in that regard as their present treatment will over ride getting there (especially with the white trim). By cladding them in wood look siding (horizontal or vertical) you’ll get much closer to contemporary and will nicely connect your home to its surroundings.

The remaining siding should be similar to your stucco’s shade and paint the garage door and all trim to achieve an uninterrupted flow. I think your home will be stunning.

Appreciate all the comments so far-thank you!

The current thinking is to replace the siding with Hardie with an updated texture/color, reduce the trim & possibly update windows and entryway. We aren't fans of the blocky/chunky white trim and thick batton...would like to move to something cleaner & more elegant yet still have some warmth. I like the idea of adding some wood accent to warm up the look and provide visual interest.

Driveway & landscape will be the next projects to tackle (next year). We're planning to remove the concrete wall on the left with current project and will likely move to pavers next year. Not sure what to do with landscape.

I like your home as is, but if you wanted it to be a bit more contemporary then I'd minimize some of the white trim on the house.

The window grids are a shame- any chance they are the removable type? Why not just stucco the front to match the other three sides?

If you are replacing the siding, plain vertical siding, no battens, would be appropriate. And then body and trim all one color.

Beautiful house. Look forward to seeing which way you go with it.

The basic silhouette of the home is very contemporary. The siding is too much. remove all the vertical slats. Paint it dark one color on the facade, reduce to trim to windows and soffits.

    Thanks for the continued comments-helpful!

We feel fortunate to have a house with a good structure as a starting point. Based on the unanimous feedback here, I had the company that came out yesterday give an estimate for no grid windows across the front. Sounds like I might not even need to replace the window, just the glass.

I'm also exploring a siding from Hardie called 'V Groove' that can provide a cleaner and less 'in your face' look of vertical lines (dips inward vs. current batten).

I like the idea of soffits, at least in the entryway (maybe more if the budget allows). On that note, I'm going to post a few pics of our entryway/stairs to get your thoughts on that, too.

Here are a few pics of our stairs and front door. You all have been so helpful, I’d love to get your thoughts here too.

Remove the s pop survival trim from the doors and get modern lights instead of the carriage lamps.

contemporary? go dark, and bring in wood elements.

    Hardie has all diff kinds.

this one is Hardie Night gray and Iron Gray

this one is more contemp farmhouse, but your style home would loo like this. just look at the board and batten style siding.

    1. Replace the windows with plain glass.

    2. have the chimney covered in a stone

    3. do the garage door and front door in a sleek teak wood

    4. Pull your entry stair surround and do a more open horizontal metal railing system and delete that vertical "post"

    5. Paint the siding

Thanks HALLETT & Co for the suggestions on our front steps/entry. Yeah those carriage lights are horrendous and agree the black swirly metal over the door needs to go.

Beth H. thanks for the inspirational pics. The transformation on those houses is impressive.

We are even more excited for our project...now to narrow down the options.
