Need Thoughts On Names

last modified: 8 months ago

Have not had cats in 15+ years. My dog had to be Euthanized in January. My wife passed away on June 3rd.

I'm needing companionship.

I'm adopting two eleven year old brother cats. Neglected and tough for rescue to find homes for older bonded pairs. I've asked my family for suggested names.

Under consideration:
Curly & Larry; Ying & Yang; Bert & Ernie; Bert & Harry; Amos & Andy; Niles and Frasier: Wilbur & Orville; Ben & Jerry: Ali & Baba

When I scheduled Vet Appointment, the Tech Put Down "Kitty 1" and "Kitty 2'"
Those names actually are not bad.

Any thoughts?

So nice you adopted brothers and they will be great companions for you. I like Frasier and Niles, or Ben and Jerry.

Those are beautiful cats! What a wonderful, wonderful thing you're doing to give those sleek guys a home. I like Bert & Ernie, but I bet you will get some super-creative suggestions as well!

Cats and Dogs have a way of being assigned a name, and then what they're actually called on a daily basis could be any random nickname, which is part of the dog/cat ownership charm.

Please let us know how they're settling in!

Three of my four granddaughters liked Bert and Ernie.

Many are not old enough to remember Bert and Harry nor Bob and Ray.

I'll let you know when it is decided.

The amazing thing is that there is a third younger cat at the same "home" - also looking for a home. I just couldn't risk taking in THREE cats.

First, I wanted to say that I'm sorry to hear about your wife passing away recently. I can only imagine how difficult that must be for you. I also am a HUGE dog person - and I lost my 13 year old pup last year (he passed away in my arm) - that was very hard for me. Hearing about both of your losses makes my heart ache - sending good thoughts your way.

I like Niles and Frasier! It is so nice for you to provide a home for two older cats - it seems like they wouldn't have many options. They are so lucky to have you!

I'm 82 years old. We'd been married 59 years when she passed in June. Last January my fourteen year old Greyhound that I owned for 10 years had to be euthanized.

These two cats are going to good for me.

I did not want young critters for fear they would outlive me. I'm making financial arrangements to protect them, but...

@Stax It sounds like you are managing your new life well & taking care of yourself & surrounding yourself with life and love in your home by reaching out to offer the chance for a good quality of life to these two kitties. I like most of the paired names you listed, with Ben & Jerry rolling off my tongue the easiest. Looking at their pictures & seeing the only difference in their markings & coats seems to be the one with white bib & back paw tips. ”Shoes & Socks” came to mind - Socks being the white paw tips. Maybe give it a few days to let them settle in & their personalities start to emerge. That may suggest a natural name that fits them each. Mutt & Jeff? 😊

Or Socks & Boots (instead of Shoes)

I love cats and couldn’t resist reading this post. I am sorry for your losses. Those two handsome boys will be great companions for you. I speak from experience when I say that often our pets rescue us as much as we rescue them. For names, Felix and Oscar came to mind immediately, but I like Frasier and Niles too!

If you’d taken the third kitty as well you could have named them Tom, Dick and Harry. Then you could say things like “Every Tom dick and Harry wants to be fed at the same time!” Or “I feel like every Tom dick and Harry thinks I’m their housekeeper!” Just some levity. I’m truly sorry to hear of your losses. You’ve done a wonderful thing rescuing 2 older kitties as it’s true they are often overlooked for much younger cats

Good on ya for adpoting these poor guys in need. I am so sorry for your loss and happy you found these little ones. They look like Niles and Frasier to me.
