Looking for help with paint color selection for our wainscotting!

Hi all!

We are looking at painting our wood wainscotting to bring a little life to our living space. It errrks me to even think of painting wood but honestly we have a lot of it going on in our home and I feel like it just needs a little something. Obviously your opinions here are welcome.

My current choices are BM October Mist (wainscotting) and BM White Dove walls. I also love SW Evergreen Fog but it's slightly darker and our room does not get much direct sunlight.

Attached are pics of my living space and our furniture to help with color selection or suggestions. I'm open to going away from warm greens if other colors are suggested.

Make sure you prep correctly, pine will bleed thru. Someone should have more detailed advice on this.

How about some lighting? It’s a pretty room, and I can it is dark, but the only lighting I see is the ceiling spots that light the fireplace. Before you consider painting, how about adding some table lamps, floor lamps, chandelier?

@ VAval As stated in my question. Lighting is going to be addressed in the near future. Recently moved and aren't there yet. We do have table and floor lamps. TY

Ah, ok. Thought lighting being addressed in near future meant you hadn’t purchased yet. My point is, have a placed the lighting you have in the room and reassessed? Is there enough lighting that can be placed in the room (without looking like a lighting store ;) that alleviates the dimness WITHOUT having to paint the wainscoting? Seems like a lot of work, on a difficult wood for paint, and then what about the wood trim? Is it throughout the house? Where do you stop?

I agree @maggieq to paint the wainscotting the same color as the walls. From the photos, the contrasting wainscot around the perimeter feels hemmed in --like an enclosure, and color will only amplify it-- and not add any more light anyway.

You could consider removing the wainscotting and just paint the walls instead. Hopefully there is sheetrock under it.

I think the windows and beams will really pop against a uniform backdrop for the walls.
