Peel and stick patterned tile

Hide it behind a door.

What is it to, where does it go? It is used regularly? Why is there no wall rail? Why do you ask? What do you think should be done with it?

Add tile or wood outlining stairs. Basically a baseboard. Tile will add color. Maybe something in the tile “pattern” of what’s there presently. Or go rogue and add a patterned color tile. If you choose wood as a baseboard choose or stain a wood banister to match. Either choice a banister is a must.

A hand rail would be a nice safety feature. If those are peel and stick tile, I would peel them all off, and clean off all the sticky residue, and then buy some carpet pads for the stairs, or even a runner for them. The tile are not a great look.

Doubtful is it's a peel and stick tile. Those nosing pieces are solid hardwood. Thinnest one can find may be 3/8 inch. Too late for base. Wouldn't work anyway. What someone must be thinking is stair skirting. And it's too late for that too

Tile can be painted. Paint the riser, not the step. That’s not practical.. The riser should be in the same family color. Sand and stain the wood and add a wood baseboard. Same stain as the wood on each step. Add the stained wood handrail. The riser will disappear. The stair tiles will pop, though they might not be the preferred tile. With the baseboard and handrail it will all come together.
