Adding casters to night table

Can you help me?

Our new bedroom is too narrow for our bed and 2 night tables, so we got a bed with drawers under it. That solved the storage issue, but i still would like a table on my side (cannot do one on husband’s side as it would block the closet; he can do a shelf if he decides he cares). There is room on my side for one of our (basic Ikea Malm) nightstands, but it would block a drawer under the bed.

If i put it on wheels, though,, especially the kind with easy to release brakes/locks, then we can just keep seldom used items in that drawer.

The floor is parquet, no carpet.

Any advice on what to buy and how to do this? I would like the lowest workable wheels.

The felt worked! If i had to move it far and/or frequently, not as well as wheels, of course, but just fine for my needs.

I would do a wall hung nightstand instead. they make nice ones with drawers.

Thanks for the suggestion. We considered it but it won’t work in this room.. And I want to use the piece I already have.

I should have mentioned that in my original post. I KNEW someone would suggest a wall hung unit or a shelf!.

I’ve not searched but have seen in past different types of low platforms on casters. Think planter dollies but either nicer or more hidden metal types. Depending on size of your nightstand, or if it is designed so casters can be attached. There are also various types of wheels that attach with adhesives, but not sure if heavy- duty enough. So may depend on whether you know someone who could adapt the furniture for you or you are searching amongst the products that don’t require additional skills.

I'm pretty sure IKEA sells casters for their office drawer units. I'd imagine they'd work well for your nightstand. Just test them out to see if you need locks. My guess is no.

Lowes has locking casters. I think these would be perfect for your needs.

What are the legs like on your table? Casters that screw on require a pretty big leg. The one I showed has a post, so you just need to drill one hole in the middle of each leg.

It doesn’t really have legs. I found this reddit post by someone who attched casters to their nightstand that is just like mne but for the color. It shows the bottom. do you think the casters they used are a good choice? I like the lower one inch profile. do i need a drill?

Ah, that's different.

Put these felt protectors all along the bottom. Your table will slide easily, but not scratch your floors.

I have the same situation - drawers in my bed and a nightstand with casters. My nightstand, however, is made of hardwood. The Reddit photo shows something made from particle board. I don’t think that will hold casters on a permanent basis. I think the idea of using felt is a good one, especially if you won’t often need to access that drawer. They sell strips of felt at most hardware stores. It has an adhesive side to stick onto furniture. Yes you'd need a drill to install those . I wouldn't attach those to the bottom of the Ikea pieces.

They're essentially attached to pressed wood. I would use the felt or plastic furniture sliders.
