Are you keeping the wood walls? They don't seem to suit the style of the home? Would you consider whitewashing or painting them?

The very first thing I would do would be to paint the wood walls. And the remove the chair rail in the hall. And then a neutral wood floor of your liking.

Do you like the wood walls? My first instinct would be to paint them and put in wood floors.

I will not be painting the walls. the chair rail has been removed already and I painted. just looking for flooring to go with the wood :)

If you are keeping the wood walls do a stone floor like slate. Two non matching woods will always clash.

So the house is kind of schizophrenic in terms of selections.

Address the issue of the different color light bulbs in your light fixtures.

You room could look great with painted shiplap and wood floors.

You don't say what kind of look you're going for. Have you considered or looked at any vinyl flooring in a stone look? What kind of flooring are you considering or prefer?

If you’re keeping the wood, I would think about Marmoleum - feels great on feet, a more natural product etc

^^^ good idea or cork could work too

Can you show a pic of the bedroom? Does it and the rest of the walls have the wood paneling too or is the wood just in this room?

I'd try to put in a darker wood floor simply because I love a wood floor. It will be tricky to do and have it look good with the wood walls, but I think it can be done. Use some area rugs to break it up so it doesn't look like a lumber yard.

I think when you start a post with what you are not going to do it limits ideas . IMO the wood is busy and will drive every decision you make so ay least open your mind to something to keep that from driving the bus. If not painting then mayebe cover it mostly . I think a really dark wood floor with not real grain shoing could work . I have no clue as to your style either .To me the goofy entry built there is now just making everything complicated . Post some pics of spaces you like or at least give us some clue as to your style and why you will not paint the wood to make this much easier . BTW I would not do a stone look floor to add to this mess .

I know this is t a great picture, i will get a better one today but ive been working on the entry way too and adjusting colors of the lighting. until i can get everything replaced.. its a slow process. I took down tbe chair rail in the entry and painted a solid color. i know it looks rough im just trying to find some flooring to change for the whole house. so there wont be ten different types of floor.

Honestly IMO just maiking the whole thing more complicated than needed Why did you choose the wood and if it was not your choice then why let it drive your decor

It was there when we bought the house and because I like the walls so I want to keep it.

The photo with solid light colored flooring looks pretty good and won't compete with the beauty of the wood A warm off white maybe.

But since it looks like you have at least one toddler maybe consider keeping the carpet for awhile. Much better surface for toddlers. Not to mention all the disruption.
