Hi there! I'd love some design thoughts on a kitche refresh we are doing. We have a historic home (1885), but are modernizing the kitchen. The last redesign was at least 20 years ago (pictured). It's a galley kitchen. We are having the cabinets painted while, replacing the granite with Cambria Berwyn and moving to a workstation sink.

I'd love some design advice on:

--A backsplash and grout (thinking white subway?) that will open up the kitchen. Also quality brands to look at.

--A paint color to replace the red (there is a large family room facing the kitchen that also needs a complimentary color).

--Cabinet hardware and faucet color recommendations.

My goal is to visually create open and bright space. Thanks for your help!

With that quartz, I'd probably do a creamier white for the cabinets and also paint all the red areas and the adjacent room the same white. Find a white subway tile that works with the counter with a light, sandy colored grout. Do black hardware and faucets.

Choosing a backsplash is best left to after the countertops are installed. Agree with a creamy white for the cabinets and wall color. ( Be prepared for comments not in favor of changing out granite for quartz, a common opinion on this site.) I prefer matching grout color to tile for a more subtle, less busy appearance.. Be sure to post your after pics!

Is there money in the budget for some minor cabinetry upgrades? Before I spent thousands on paint and counters I would pull the cabinet over the fridge forward and add a panel to hide the fridge side. I would also revise the two angled cabinets- they scream 1990’s
