Kitchen sink - uneven flush reve

Hello all, I know there are many discussions about reveals for sinks. We bought a Kraus Belluci composite granite worstation sink that requires a flish reveal because of the accessories with the workstation (cutting board, drying rack, etc). We didn’t realize until after installation that the sink is slightly crooked - probably only about 1/16” to 3/32”. The struggle is any deviation is visible with a flush reveal. The fabricator came out to re-set the sink and they couldn’t get it loose and were afraid they'd break the sink. Essentially they told us to leave it as is. Does the crooked reveal bother anyone else, or are we being too picky? The struggle is the back reveal under the faucet is also off, not just the sides.

I would show the fabricator Joseph's response and ask them to explain to you in detail why they can't remove the sink without damaging it. I wouldn't be happy with it as is, and you have an expert telling you the situation can be fixed, so I would hold their feet to the fire. If they didn't install it the way Joseph does it, I'd want an explanation, and a plan to make it right for you. Don't settle for less than what is possible.

Did your fabricators measure the actual sink, or just use the manufacturer’s template?

Anything out of alignment drives me nuts but my husband probably wouldn't even notice. I guess you have to decide if you'd get used to it and not even notice it or if it would bother you for the rest of your days in this kitchen.

No fabricators measure the actual sink. They use the DFX file and load it into the CNC. If the sink is crooked, that is a manufacturing defect. Which isn't surprising given the company. They are an aggregator, not a manufacturer.

Thanks for your replies. Minardi - it’s not a sink manufacturing defect, its that the counter fabricator who installed the sink installed it slightly crooked. But good to know your thoughts on Kraus 😉

My question is whether we press the installer to find a way to straighten it out, or whether this is acceptable by counter installation standards.

It's not a big deal to drop a sink without damage, no matter how it's attached mechanically. If the clips can't be easily accessed for unscrewing, if they're the cheap ones, simply drive a stiff scraper between the sink flange and the stone bottom into them and they will fail. If the sink is blocked in place, tap the cabinet front off and access the blocking.

Check that the cutout is square. If not, make it so on site. You'll never get the reveals right otherwise. You don't have to have a flush reveal; you can have a slight positive reveal which I recommend. Even if it's off a poo it isn't nearly as noticeable. Plus it doesn't create the elongated silicone joint that a flush reveal does. That elongation frays and becomes contaminated and ugly.

Install a Hercules Universal Sink Harness or a couple Sink Straps to the cabinet sides. Silicone the sink flange and clamp it into place. Check the reveals, tighten the straps, pull the clamp, spit on your finger, wipe up the silicone squeeze out, and you're done.

Minardi is incorrect. Our counter fabricator, M. Teixeira, had us send them the sink to properly measure. Teixeira double checked, when they came to digitally measure the entirety of where the counters were going.

Minardi: "No fabricators measure the actual sink."

Krause provides a sink template but the installation instructions says, "Check the cut-out template against the actual sink to ensure a proper sized cut-out" but apparently the cutout isn't the problem but rather the alignment within the cutout.

Not when speaking of most production countertop manufacturers these days. It is done by computer. Gone are the days of dropping a sink off at the fabricator's shop.

Sink cutout files are suggestions really. I wouln't have a file that made a flush reveal. The shown pencil edge at the sink cutout is a chip factory.

The fabricator I've used either measured the sink/bathtub on site when they came out to template or had me have the sink delivered to them so they could measure it there.

Out Rivati sink came with a template in the box. The guy that came to the house to template checked the template against the actual sink, and because it was a match, felt comfortable using the template they had on file for that sink. I'm pleased with the result.
