Have you considered putting the desk on the long wall? I think it would make better use of the room. You could then put an easy chair or plant table by the window. You'd still be able to glance out the window from the side.

I think I might get an angled desk with a built in file cabinet that would fit into the corner to the left of the window and then add high shelving for storage, i.e. above head height along the long wall.

Put in a runner or rug in the center of the room.

The desk is new and a non negotiable for me! But I’m with you on the rug in the center/high shelving with some sort of bookcase :)

Desk goes on the long wall. In the current situation the window just creates glare when you’re using a computer. In the side you can actually look out unobstructed. Plus your back won’t be to the door.

What other furniture/where would you put to maximize the spec and storage?

You're keeping the antique desk but must you use it in this room? I would want something of a height to see directly out the window. The setup right now is so short it looks like working in a well. Something adjustable to customize for your window?
