throw Pillow sizes

last year

There is a very limited selection of 18x18 throw pillows. Most are 20x20. I've looked in Crate and Barrel and West Elm. Any other suggestions?

Designers use larger-size pillows. We don't purchase 18x18 pillows. They end up being clutter on seating instead of statements.

IMO most designers use too many pillows I think if you have to move pillows to sit down there are too many and all of the above have too many

I have better luck looking for the covers. Seems like there are better selections than trying to find them already made. Inserts are not that expensive. You can even use old pillows that no longer work in your home. You could get a 20×20 insert to make the 18x18 look nice and full.

If you sew, it is as easy as it can be to make a pillow case for you couch pillows.

You can make them formal or nicely modern casual. You can put in carefully conealed zippers with hidden flaps, or a simple envelope opening.

It depends on how casual or formal you want them to be.

I prefer totally casual, myself, but have sewn many a formal style pillowcase with all the hidden zips. And, piping is nice even if it is to be casual . It is not imperative, but it does give some nice structure.

I always line my pillow cases and I always wash my all my fabrics first, but I choose nicely washable fabric instead of those that need special cleaning.

I cant have too many pillows, anywhere. I love me lots of pillows!!

It is true that, for most of the more formal pillows for others who were paying me handsomely for it that the pillow form be a bit larger than the case so that it filled out the case. But for my more casual ones I actually reverse that and make my case a bit larger than the pillow form so that the pillow can get squishy and comfortable.

You can buy nice pillow forms or you can buy the cheaper ones at JOanns. You can even buy feather pillow forms.

If sewing is new to you, this is a great first project to do it the more casual way, with an envelope opening instead of a hidden zipper. Not having a zipper also makes it more squishy and comfortable.

I love my soft squishy pillows!

I also prefer to make my own bed pillow cases, too. I love the feel of a good quality cotton and I end up with a lot of different colors and prints that are just fun.

When our daughter got married I bought several lenghts of pretty linen and cotton fabrics in pretty old world kinds of prints and a really beautiful yellow home dec heavy linen to use for the table settings.

Fast forward to she and hubs bought some nice couches and I have made her really nice cases for the pillows from these beautiful fabrics. Her pillow cases are a step up with a few more finishing details than I make for myself, a bit more sturctured but still casual enough for grandson and friends to pull off teh couch and throw at each other. And they are washable and easily removed. I made sure of that.

I do think that it is best to line it with a simple cotton lining that is sewn as one with the deco fabric.

Everytime we are over there I am so pleased to see them and to use them.

We used the pillows that came with the couch for the pillow forms.

A simple piped pillow case with a lapped closing on it and lined can be so nice and oh so simple!

I dont like anything that cant be taken off and washed. But you can use those fabrics that wont wash if you want. Since you can take it off you can take it to the cleaners if that is what you want.

Personally I wouldnt trade my custom made pillow cases for any others. And, the same for my bed pillow cases.

I am so glad that I can sew! I dont know where to go to buy pillow cases like this unless you hire someone like me to make them. I cant say that I have ever looked for them, but dont recall ever seeing any anywhere, ever.

I made some bed pillow cases from some beautiful home dec cotton prints that I have had in my stash from back when fabrics were of good quality. I'll buy the new pillows to go inside of them and this will be a gift for daughter. They have crappy pillows that need replaciing and there is always someone sleeping over . So I used up some beautiful fabric stash and they get new pillows! They are so nice! You could not buy one made of these beautiful quality cottons like this.

    Yes, me again here.

I love pillows that I can put under my arms as arm rests. I find it so uncomfortable sitting on a couch or bench or whatever and not having any place to comfortablly rest my arms. Some of these big couches are like that. There is no place to get comfortable.

I will also use one in my lap and put my ipad on it and a nice squishy one at each side for my elbows to rest.

I absolutely abhor those chaise lounge kinds of things, even at the swimming pool. And those long couches or ones without arm rests are so supremely uncomfortable!

Even sitting up in bed is best is you are snuggled in soft pillowy goodness.

Comfy pillows are a cheap luxury and I have lots of them. I dont take them away to sit down, I let them comfort and cushion me. I get comfortable and nestle into them.
