Blank Wall Help!

last year

Hello! I have a large blank wall in my family room (pictured below) that I am looking to fill with a chest of drawers, as I need more storage in my home. I have found two lovely chests, but am unsure which (if either) will work better with my home dimensions. The wall is 8.5ft long, and my home has 8ft ceilings. The first antique Hepplewhite chest is 42”w x 43”h. I love this one, but am concerned it will be too tall to style with a lamp in this space. The second chest is 44”w x 35”h. Need advice on if either will look good in my home! Thank you so much!

Neither look large enough. Look for something 2/3 the width of the wall so 68" wide

Are you sure you can't find something wider?

Do you really want to select an item that is this traditional in style?

Something much wider since you state that you need more storage. we have two large credenzas in two rooms ( living & dining ) from Room & Board, probably too modern for you but both provides lots of storage with drawers & doored cabinet space.. If you want something more tradional I’m sure there are lots of options.

Neither they both look like bedroom furniture . Go look at buffet style pieces that are much more fitting for that space . Hwo wide is that walkway ? Id o think there is room for anything deeper than maybe 12" so lay out a piece of cardboard on the floor and then see how big that walkway is from sofa to wall. Hard to tell from the pic angle . You havbe a lot going on with wallpaper beadboard maybe some pics if that whole space could help. Post here in jpeg format in a comment DO NOT start another post

Hi @Patricia, the walkway would be 3ft between the sofa and the piece with a 20” deep piece. The wallpaper will be gone soon, we are looking for something English/French inspired but simple enough to work in our family room.

Would you consider the chest placed on the back wall behind the sofa instead of the side wall? I have this Hooker piece and just love it! it is the one piece of furniture that everyone absolutely loves when they visit.

I am thinking of placing a console against the back of the sectional in addition to a chest, but could consider a chest on the back wall instead! The sectional backs up to the entryway.

The Hooker piece I posted is 73” very impressive size…with art and lamp or lamps would really make a statement…than no need for anything against the back of the sofa…what is your budget?

Is the sofa facing a fireplace?

The side wall could have a gorgeous framed piece of wall art with a picture light. I found these on Etsy…and added picture lights…I enjoy touches French in my home…and add whatever frame style you prefer…they are very budget friendly..printed on canvas.

I like them both, but think the taller would be better to help fill the space. I do think the 2nd one looks more like a bedroom piece, but the 1st does not, to me. If you need storage, you might also think of a taller/larger piece to go on the wall behind the sofa and just add art to this wall. That will alleviate any passage concerns.

I would look for a vintage piece in the style you prefer, so these are just size configuration ideas

    Larger than this:

Wider than this, but it shows covered shelves:

Yes, the sofa does face a fireplace. These are the two floor plans I was thinking of, we are not replacing the sectional/chair/rug as they are new. Just trying to figure out what case goods/tables will best fit the room. Any help with this is appreciated!

Love this plan…than you can have a place for adding good lighting to that side of the room…I would consider a round coffee table…and floor lamp next to chair..small side table with a lamp at end of sectional will distribute lighting all around the room…beautiful!

I would thinksomething like this could work a bi to f a a crossover piece and then a nice large piece of art above . Lots of storage and meant to be a buffet type piece .Then think about maybe a bit french country style wall paper if you must . For me that wall above the trim in a really nice color with some art above it might be better but I would need to see that room where you have the wallpaper now .

Hi Home Interiors With Ease, the sectional is 116x94”! Yes they are a soft blue grey, the color is custom from our old owners but is extremely similar to Farrow and Ball Light Blue!
