Fandeliers anyone?

last year

Obsessed with fandeliers. Anyone else? I would like to add one in my kitchen but a little worried is just a fad.

    LOL!!!
Even the ones with the retractable blades that look super fancy?

They don’t look fancy. They look terrible. I’m all for function over form but you’re getting the worst of both. They make microhoods look like haute couture.

  • last year

I had to look up what a fandelier is LOL! Probably a fad.

  • last year

    Oh my.

  • last year

    There’s no accounting for taste.

Fad, or not…they’re awful in function and appearance.

  • last year

Wow very strong opinions. Many people do love them.
    A mixed bag for sure.
I need a light fixture but love the fan ideas for practical purposes. What do you do about that if fandeliers are an abomination?

Get a plain ceiling fan with a light kit. Get a ceiling fan without a light kit and get recessed lights. Get a cut stand fan to sit on the counter and get the chandelier you want plus cans (because no fixture in the middle of a ceiling properly lights a kitchen)

No way I am putting a cut stand fan on my counter. Trying to minimize clutter. I think you might be thinking of the ugly old fandaliers. There are many pretty ones out there now and many with very good reviews in fictionality and style.
I am still trying to figure out what I will do in my kitchen but definitely considering it.

Fans have no business being in kitchens or dining rooms. The blades accumulate dust and grime, and blow it into the air. All of it inevitably lands on surfaces below. Gross. Ask me how I know.

Find a nice semi-flush light fixture for the kitchen. One, that’s sole purpose is to illuminate.

Good point if no cleaning is done in a regular basis.

My office was temporarily inside a huge lighting showroom while I was building out a permanent space for myself. They have tons. Each worse than the next IN MY OPINION. That’s all you will get from asking random strangers on the internet is their opinion. You seem to want one so have at it. You don’t need our permission. You haven’t even shown us what you like. You just asked if they were a good idea and they aren’t.

Functionally, what do ceiling fans do? They circulate air and provide a bit of a breeze. Great when it is hot and sticky. If that's often the case in your kitchen, then I can see it. However, the air movement will also interfere with your range hood doing its job, so if the kitchen gets hot during cooking, the ceiling fan will hurt as much as help.

Aesthetically, it is a "whatever floats your boat" situation. Probably won't draw much admiration from visitors, but who cares either way.

Agreed the fan blades will get dirty faster than in other rooms, but some like to clean.

Not asking for permission just asking random strangers for their take on fandeliers (period) after sharing MY OWN.
I believe that this is a simple case of agreeing to disagreed.
I think (I don’t own one so can’t 100 % attest to this) I like fandeliers, I like the functionality, practicality and style of some of them and you do not and that’s okay.
Enjoy the rest of your Friday. Cheers!

For me it depends on what it is you are loving about the fandelier; clearly you are wanting the function of the ceiling fan, but is your style more modern? More traditional? What does the kitchen look like that this is going in?

I would almost always opt for a really nice looking fan with a sleek light fixture in the middle. For example, you can get the nice wood blades and add some warmth and texture to the space while maintaining the function of a ceiling fan. I don't think all fandeliers look bad, but I do think 9 times out of 10 you can find something better in just a ceiling fan if air movement is the priority.

  • last year

    Yes!! 👆🏼
I like the function of the fan.
my style is transitional. I usually prefer air circulation/movement via fan or open windows over airconditioning.

I've always liked this type for adding in that warmth and wood texture! Feels elevated but still functional. I also love light toned, natural woods so personally I would get one like that but this gives an example of the kind I like!

Very clean lines. I like it!
    Thank you

Yeah, great. They’re dust and grease magnets, and don’t belong in eating spaces.

The OP wants what she wants. I wish her all the best in achieving the goal.

Why come here then, and ask a bunch of total strangers for their opinions? She was looking for support of her ”obsession”, but didn’t get it. That’s a risk she took by coming this forum.

  • last year

Exactly. She’ll learn what you all tried to do for her.

What in the world are you talking about? Not because I didn’t take YOUR opinion as gospel and decided to express and explained MY reasons for my preference on something, I don’t even own, it means that I shouldn’t be here.
I am sure you both, like me, left middle school many moons ago.
I don’t want or have time for your negativity. If you were offended by me challenging your opinion/ position then that’s on you.

Could you show us an example of one you love? When I googled "fandolier" (because I had no idea what it was) I saw a wide variety of styles.

We have ceiling fans in all our bedrooms, and they are wonderful in the summer. Ceiling fans do not do anything to cool a room; the air movement is what makes you feel cooler. I would not want that much air movement (even on low) above my dining table while I'm eating - which is the only time it would make sense to have it on.

  • last year

You can clean ceiling fans, just like you clean other things in the kitchen.

  • last year

This is an example of what I think could be in some homes a good alternative for function and style. Not saying it would work for everyone but if someone enjoys air movement and needs a “pretty” light fixture then why not play with it.
And yes, cleaning goes without saying. If the blades of your fan and light fixtures are put in the same cleaning rotation as your blinds then, they will not get clean as often but you you put it in the cleaning rotation of your hood and living room windows, then they will probably get more attention.

  • last year

Few other examples. Again, this is not for everyone but what is it?

    We’re in Las Vegas!

Fan blades much too small. Won’t move much air unless at high rpm, which you don’t want (noisy).

As for the looks, well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Its not, umm, my taste, let’s say.

Las Vegas heat is no joke. I would never (even with an industrial sized fan) would try to cool my self with in Las Vegas, specially during this new phase in my life call menopause LOL !!
