I like the idea of a recessed light. It would light up the whole area and not be a distraction.

I like recessed or even a flush fixture option best, too.

Yes to Jan's point--it is such a tiny claustrophobic space to work in.

For sure no sconces or the space will be totally useless I agree not a great spot for a desk but if you must then overhead lighting for sure .

You must be very skinny people. How does one even get into that chair? I agree this is not a great place for a desk, lights or no lights.

To save having an electrician come in and to create a less claustrophobic environment, consider adding a floating top from window to close to the end of the nook. A lamp could then be used and you will have some breathing space (chair will be on the outer edge similar to below).

Could also improve visually with a nicer window treatment, wallpaper and plants closer to the window.
