Help organize this closet

I am looking for ideas to organize this closet. We really need to maximize this space as it is for 2 people. Any ideas appreciated!

I see lots of empty space and not an overwhelming amount of stuff. Maybe add some shelves to that shelving system that seems to be there already and move what looks like bedding to a shelve.

A better term might be ”optimize”, not maximize. You want to use the space to its best advantage, so you can store and easily access and put away your items.

So, what else do you need to store? undies, pjs, socks, sweaters, workout workout, specialty? How? Do you have much folded? How tall are you? (I see a stool…)

It really depends on what else needs to go in here. There is lots of empty space. What I see that could be changed is that the tops hanging on the bottom rod touch the floor, I would move those on the upper rod in the back, currently empty. Using the bottom rods for shorter items like pants folded over the hanger or short skirts etc.

It looks like you have a LONG HANG section toward the from of the pic for long garments, coats, robes, dresses and 3 or maybe 4 SHORT HANG sections for your shorter garments, that is pretty easy. Just keep items together by length on the LONG hang, medium dresses will take up less vertical room leaving space underneath where you can store shoes for example.

If you need to store small items you can probably move the brackets a bit higher and create space at the bottom to add some ELFA drawers or even plastic ones if on a budget.

On the top shelves use baskets or bins to store folded items that are used less frequently or out of season, things like ski gear, bathing suits etc. You can also use them for blankets or travel items, long boots, or anything not used daily. If you have any extra bedding items like duvets, or pillows, place them in something that compresses them to save space. When nothing else is on hand, I roll them and tie them with a ribbon or string. Many possibilities but in the end it depends on what needs to go in there.
