High ceiling Dining Room ideas

last year

I have a challenging Dining Room that needs some ideas. I feel like it has so much potential to look so much better. Any ideas big or small? It feels so underwhelming. Thanks

The art is hung too high , the cahndelier is okay but for me a bit much in the space I do not think a round table is the right choice and for sure not a tablecloth on whatever table you get . The chandelier is driving the bus so now all things need to be as awesome and also pretty simple I like the art , I would like a contempory rectangular table and a different buffet also not cluttered ,I like the rug biut not with that table .I actually hang art in DRs lower than the usuall since it is viewed while seated . The house is a bit confused too since the staircase is not really the right look for that fab wall of windows either

The tablecloth is a magnet for my eyes, not in a good way. I’d do no tablecloth at all.

Yes, the art is too high. It looks like it’s hung to compensate for the very high ceiling, but that’s not necessary.

Thanks for your feedback, the tablecloth was there because we had just finished eating in there, but here is a photo of the table. It's a nice looking table. It's a bit hard to place a longer table in there because the room is square shaped and small. I feel like those walls feel so empty with what I have hanging. Would love do more ideas. Thanks

^ agree, I think the chandy is at the right height, if it were me I’d adjust the art height and upgrade the look of the table and rug — I would want something on the wall of windows so they were not black boxes at night

    Nice space with wonderful windows!

Consider updating the rug and seat covers with some color, even a soft color will lift the room. Remove the tablecloth when the table is not in use.

Double-check the chandelier measurement from the table top. But I too think it‘s the art height that is off (too high).

I wonder if the server would look better on the longer wall that currently has the art work.

Another option for the server position might be the wall across from the windows (as shown in one photo in the comments) if the server would be centered on the table/chandelier and if the railings on that wall were replaced with a higher sheetrock wall. I think the multiple railings on three walls of the dining room make the room look ”busy” but can understand if you leave them as-is to give openess to the stairwells/hallways.

Also consider removing everything but 1 or 2 lamps from the server and maybe adding a low decorative bowl or a grouping of smaller items.

Please post photos of your updated room!

I love this room and ordinarily I love neutrals. But, I feel you played it too safe with your choices, which is why you feel it is underwhelming.

I think you could have added more color with the art and the area area rug.

I’m not a fan of the mirror above your side board. They say a mirror should have a function.

Either be useful to check your appearance or reflect a pretty view. For me if you want to it a third way as in art itself, then it needs to be something other than a framed rectangle.

I would go with round glass top cover.

The art is hung too high. This is a room where you are SEATED to enjoy art. I'd like to see more vibrant color, can not tell if the walls are gray or beige, but the art feels cold with the rug.

No to table cloth. ESPECIALLY colors.

I'd like to see some upholstered, less matched chairs. Yes to a different chandelier, less traditional and less goo.

    Most of all.....

What I'd really love to do is take every architect who ever thought this much height , out of scale / proportion, not wonderful window combo, was EVER a good idea contained within the small width, breadth of this space, and Beat him or her senseless with a thousand wet noodles.

Long panels would do big impact. I would go with vertical layout for wall art.

    Your room is really beautiful.

The only thing I can think of is found on your table... the color reflected in the centerpiece. Red. For the rug.

The lower area feels a bit crowded, while the higher above seems quite empty. Placing the two tables in a staggered arrangement works well. Adding brighter draprey to the window would create a warmer atmosphere and Make up for the vacancies in high places.
