I would leave all the wood alone and get some better lighting and open the blinds. I would not paint any of the wood.

Yes, leave the wood and consider adding track lighting to brighten the space.

You can do better than what is on the walls. You can do better than the blinds on the windows.

The wood is beautiful -- don't sh*t it up with paint. The problem is the wall paint. It's a light, airy beachy color that doesn't fit the vibe of wood and brick. If you want light walls, re-paint in a warm white or off-white (no cool whites!) or a light color in an earthy tone. And agree with changing the blinds.

It is not just that it is dark but that is squashed feeling. The ceiling here is short and feels squashed. If the ceiling and walls are the same color then it will feel more open. Paint the walls and wood white. Leave the larger wood beams unpainted. If you don't like the look of that then paint them too.
