looking for kitchen layout advice

Hi everyone,

We are looking at purchasing this home. I am not a fan of the stove beside the doorway. What layout would you recommend? We will be removing the cabinet beside the kitchen island as it narrows the walking pathway.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide.

@herbflavor: unfortunately there’s is also a door way beside the fridge. I should have posted a wider picture. Here are views from the other side.

@herbflavour, oops I just reread your comment. Thank you so much for your input. That makes sense and is definitely a good option

Are you looking at a full kitchen renovation? Moving the island or the cabinet across from the island might necessitate patching the flooring, and if you don't have extra flooring material it will be obvious and you could be looking at redoing the flooring - which seems to go throughout other areas of the first floor. It is hard picking apart just one element of a layout without it unraveling. But I agree that the stove right next to the door is not safe.

If I were redoing the kitchen I would not have a corner sink nor an island. I'd get a counter depth fridge.

Herbflavor’s suggestion is in all likelihood how the kitchen was designed when the house was built. What you have now is someone’s desire to have an island at the expense of a good layout.

I agree that reasonable adjustments may require extensive/expensive renovation. There is not room for an island. Replace the cabinet on the family room wall with the frig. Move the range to the dining room wall. If there is a dishwasher to the right of the sink move it to the left of the sink. This would likely create the need to redo cabinets & flooring. Expensive!!!

@Kendrah, we are looking at full kitchen Reno at this point, yes. We were thinking of maybe changing the kitchen area to tile to avoid touching the other areas. Not sure if that’s not desirable anymore?

Of course it is nice to have the same wood throughout but it is acceptable to transition to another kind of flooring. I'd try to have someone do a wood match before going that route though.

Good luck on purchasing the home. If you and up getting it, come back here and post full measurements of the space and you'll get great advice on layout from others on here.

    What about something like this?

Thank you, Buehl! That is definitely another good suggestion to consider. It would give us more counter space which would be nice with three children!
