Zero floors or ceilings are ever level. Even in new construction. This issue originated back at the layout of the foundation, and should have been discovered and solved then. Before framing.

You cant get to installed cabinets and then all

of a sudden realize you should have had a level 16 steps ago. Fault and ”acceptable” don't factor into it by then. It just IS.

Happens all the time this is usually handled by scribing the trim to fir the uneven ceiling but of course would have been better if addressed before. I do not think this is a big issue and once you are moved back in the fact is you will forget about it too. As long as the counters and all else are level move on

The difference has to go somewhere as long as it is done right it should not be overly noticeable once everything is done. I do want to mention though that the crown over the fridge looks crooked unless it is the photo but I think something is wrong there.

ABC comes long before XYZ. As long as the cabinets and appliances are level and plumb, that is the most important thing. The crooked house around it just makes it look like the addition has always been there, and settled over time. A lot of additions scream pretty loudly because they are so obviously new. This will blend into the old!

With that ceiling height, I would have made the crown detailing above the cabinets a bit simpler and less top-heavy, which would have also given you a bit more space to "hide" the out of level ceiling/floor.

There is no " acceptable" dimension. It just is. Ceilings can be leveled and a skim coat done to feather out the area but that my be quite difficult/impossible now. It looks like you have breaks in the crown which is very helpful.

All the pictures look good except the ref one - is it just me or does that crown look really crooked?

Thank you everyone for the feedback! Yes the crown and soffit area over the fridge was over a 1 inch difference between the left side of the fridge and right side of the fridge.

The GC agreed that area above the fridge needs to be fixed and he is having them remove crown and soffit in both the fridge area and the other two runs but not the stove. He said he is having a specialized plaster guy come in and feather in the ceiling to bring it down some in the areas of those runs and it will be a little more level within each "cabinet run."

I totally understand it will never be perfectly level and above the stove area also not perfectly level but within 1/8 deviation in the same "run" which is what I would expect.

I love my contractor haven't had a single complaint otherwise, they have been great to work with and I felt so bad having to bring it up but just so much money involved I also want to be happy.

I have lived in very old houses so 1" difference is quite realistic to me. 1/8" sounds like perfection. Glad your GC has been excellent. Few can say that. Sounds like he is tending to the situation well.

Not acceptable at all by any professional. I'm sure you paid good money for the renovation and you expected a better result. Below, as others have indicated, is the way it should have been done. Over the fridge would drive me crazzzy. Didn't they have a level? At least make them do that area over. Just my opinion.

At this stage, they'll bring the ceiling to the crown to fool your eye.
