how to make this functional?!

So the previous owners installed this tub but the faucet is in front and it’s near impossible to have a bath rug unless we cut it? Any other ideas out there? We obviously would want to move it but just too much work for now

What an epic fail. Was this house a flip? My goodness that is poor design! Totally understand not wanting the undertaking of changing it.

Are you talking about a rug that stays on the floor all of the time or one you put down just when you are in the tub? If just in the tub, then lay it down perpendicular to the tub instead of parallel. I wouldn't keep a rug down here permanently. It seems like a tripping hazard.

Consider getting a soft bathmat just big enough to step onto when getting in/out of the tub. Drape it over the tub side by a vanity when not in use. Not sure how you can even clean around that tub it's so tight. At least it's functional so you can take time to save up for a remodel if you prefer.

Big fail for many reasons as for a rug just get one as mentioned to come as close as possible and store over the edge .Is this the only tub in the house ?

Place the navy rugs where they fit. Then order a matching new navy rug that you can cut to fit around the pipes.

I would do smaller rugs as @Kendrah and @jackowskib suggest - I’d stick to white so it can drape on the tub and not be very noticeable

As mentioned by others this is a poor design. So that being said, I would get a white bath mat that fits between the post and the vanity and place it over the edge of the bathtub when not in use.

I think it's amusing that you're focused on a temporary item like a bath rug when there are so many other issues with the room.

    • These hulking orange, raised paneled vanities command all the attention in the room.
    • They are capped by heavily framed mirrors that are poorly sized
    • Then the cherry on top is the selection of a light fixture that doesn't complement any of the other selections except that it matches the metal of the faucets.

The tub is petite at best. Pehaps selecting a lighter finish for the vanities could help the room for starters

Just some humor, if you’re going to cut a rug to go around the tub fixture just get a toilet rug to fit there.

    Thank y’all!!

Hahaha yes the dark cabinets have always been an issue with me and the light fixtures, I guess I just blur them out in my mind now 🤣 this whole damn bathroom really

I was going to suggest matching runners in front of each vanity. I don't know if they would be close enough to the tub to step onto though. Otherwise, I like Lisedv's suggestion.

I think the tub itself is dangerous. You have to swing a leg over the hand held faucet/sprayer...(I am already down for the count); then do the same acrobatic move to get out (I couldn't) to put your feet on a slippery floor with a bath mat? Call the EMT's, please.

Just don't use the tub. Or remove and cap off the pipe. I'm not being fresh here, It is an accident waiting to happen.

Yeah, my big sticking points are the difficulty of cleaning around the tub, and the plumbing being in the way - although I can get around that. The fact that I can still maneuver that doesn't excuse the bad layout.

The rest of it is esthetics. This was designed by a straight man (probably the builder) with a really odd sense of what affluence is supposed to look like. The cabinetry would look silly and pretentious even in a formal library.

Note to builders: People who have the money to buy a house large enough to have its own zip code often have the education to go along with it. Hire a architect and a designer - because your customers know what they are looking at.
