Help for Long boring Wall

last year

I’m back once again friends, looking for your expert advice. I have this long wall that goes from my foyer all the way to my dining room and living room. It is white and really boring. I’m debating wallpapering it because I don’t have a lot of color in the room, but it’s adjacent to my den which I have already wallpaper so I know it’s going to have to coordinate. I’m very worried that I’m going to make a mistake and it’s a huge wall to make a mistake on. Any and all advice will be appreciated. I’m including pictures of the adjacent rooms to give you a better idea of what it needs to coordinate with. Thank you!!!

Take the mirror away and add a large piece of art . Wallpaper is best when used as an accent wall where there are no doorways or windows I honestly do not see a huge expanse of wall only the one where you have the cabinet and mirror. I would do longer cabinet and a huge piece of art

^ agree + larger scale lamps - (sometimes cleaning up the details of an existing space works better than adding elements)

Patricia Colwell-does it matter that I have two huge pieces of art on the opposite wall -two abstract pieces?
Good to know about the accent wall. I didn’t know that you weren’t supposed to do it when there’s doorways and windows.
Cabinet is 70 inches -new I’m going to have to work with it. Thanks

Can I bring in gold even though I don’t have it anywhere else?

Love this one I just don’t know if it’s too much blue

No wisdom to add, but must say I love your taste in art! And pets!

I greatly understand the need for dog beds, though am wondering if that one can go elsewhere and if you can put a large interesting planter there with a tall green plant. I agree that some more color and shape needs to happen in this area, but it should not be wallpaper.

I have no problem with the mirror or the console. Yes, add more colorful lamps. I also would not mind two small piece of art hung vertically, one above the other, centered between the right lamp and the doorway to your bedroom.

for the lamps I was wondering about something a bit more casual - with a chunkier base, I love room and board's serena lamps, they come in lots of colors -- agree with @Kendrah that a taller loose palm there would add lots of great height and texture

Thanks, Melindas1977!! The pets are definitely double trouble!! lol

Kendrah- I like your idea of a plant on one 2 small pieces of art on the other side, I think I actually have something I could hang in there. Thank you.!!

Your table lamps are fighting with the shape of the mirror.

Either select very narrow buffet lamps or switch to sconces.

You could simply paint the wall a charcoal color. Your home doesn't need any more wallpaper.

Love the charcoal wall! It looks amazing. I’ll look for a thinner lamp. Thank you!! You always have the best ideas ❤️

FYI there is no limit to art in a space . I have 2 large pieces in my LR and a coffee table which is also an art piece . I do like the charcoal wall but does it connect to anthing in your home since I see a lot of more neutral warm colors . I think an accent wall has to have connection to the space maybe even a color from the art you hang on the wall but a connection to something. Mirrors only work when they reflect something worth seeing twice so yes to art no to mirror I like the idea of a real palnt but not fake ever. I rarely like wall sconces I think maybe something like this could work but of course with a longer buffet but maybe even just a longer top Real flowers I buy mine at the supermarket every week

Patricia-You make a good point about the gray, but I was thinking maybe more blue than gray. I have a lot of blue in all my rooms. Very pretty console. Thanks for your suggestions!!! I’ll definitely think about getting another console and doubling them.
I’ve been playing around today a little bit.

The gray/blue (?) wall is fighting with the tan floor.
