2 Questions! Architectural Style & Light Replacement Suggestions?

Hi All, this is my under continuous renovation 1935 house in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. It was a dump 2 years ago and we have done a lot to it to try to flange it up (roof, guttering, new walkways.. and the interior redone).

We are not designers nor architects and are trying to figure out what style of architecture our house is? We need to replace some really ugly lamp post lights and would like them to look appropriate for the style.

My first thought based on the typical types of homes in the 30s in Maine, is that maybe it's a Colonial Revival style? You can also look at the Cottage style homes, or Colonial style from that time period and see what you think. You don't have the multi-pane windows, but those could've been replaced at some point. Maybe someone who's a little more of an architecture expert will have a more definite answer for you.

Thank you. this is a great start. when i bought the house it had rickety mullion inserts in the window which I removed!

Congrats on what looks like a beautiful sprucing up of your home! I'd do some drive-by shopping of neighbor's homes in your area that were built around the same time. Take a picture of their lamp posts and then do a google image search and you'll learn a lot about the style and get recommendations on where to purchase.

National style homes are a type of folk house that were commonly built in the late 1800s and early 1900s:

How did you decide what sconces to use? Can you find a light post that compliments your sconces?

I am not sure how important the name of the style is . It looks like you have been very good at doing this according to what IMO is the style no name needed .I think the sconces could be a bit bigger and please tell me those are real plants in those planters. I love the house it is nicely done so far. I do not see the lamp post so I have no idea about it. Do you need a lamp post or could you do the mailbox on a post instead.

Thanks for you comments. Good idea on the sconces.. they should be bigger. And yes, I always use real plantings. Those are small container firs. We have 2 lamp posts.. they are circa 1985 Home Depot. Need the tops replaced. I just wanted to show the house to try to get an idea as to the architectural style which would guide me in the right direction as to exterior lighting style to keep the look as “authentic” as possible.
