You can go with back sofa facing the front door.

I would go with console table behind the sofa as well.

Big unformed spaces can be really hard to furnish. The fireplace is quite close to the front door, adding to the difficulty, especially if it is meant to be the room’s focal point.

Could you sketch out this space - with measurements - so we can see what your options are?

Beef up the white trim around the front door and/or add a pediment to it. Add beefier trim to the bottom of the windowsills and paint white. Get white cellular shades.

The living room should have a regular setup regardless of the door placement, right now it looks hodge-podge. You don't show the sofa wall or seating. Please take photos of the room from the fireplace area so we can help with proper placement. The rug looks like it should be rotated for instance.

The room is 12' from the front door to the area to walk into the hall bathroom. There is not room to put the sofa in front of the door. The room is 17' wide from the fireplace wall to the opposite wall. I have changed the rug since I took these pictures. I will try to get new pictures tomorrow of the room.

Is that a front door? is this door needed? I would have your handy husband change it out to double french doors or a big window.
