So I did a thing...

This is a small project I did just before Thanksgiving. I moved to this house over 10 years ago and I never liked my powder room. I hated the toilet (it just didn’t have any “umph”), the vanity was blah, and I would not have chosen the paint color. I hung a mirror that was made by a dear friend, but it was really too big for the space. The light was hideous, too. But whenever I thought about repainting or getting a new cabinet & top, it just seemed too much effort to consider. I made gallery walls with my vintage group photos and tried to ignore everything else. Finally it came to me to simplify the project and make just a few changes – new toilet, faucet, light, mirror and wallpaper. Now I love it!

WOW! It looks fabulous! That wallpaper is so beautiful, really elevated what was already a nice room. And the mirror, faucet, and lighting are icing on the cake. It looks more balanced and serene now. Love your art, too. Great job!

Wonderful update, thanks for sharing. :)

(Did you find another spot for the round mirror? It’s very cool!)

Wow! The wallpaper looks amazing. I love how new light fixture, mirror, and faucet can also just add so much to a space.

Hokey smokes! I thought the first pictures were the ”after”, then I saw the real ”afters”. And After they are! love especially the wallpaper and the faucet, what a difference!

Fantastic! I love that you said, ”it came to me to simplify the project.” Nothing about the ”after” picture looks ”simple.” However, I totally can relate to the seentiment of looking at a big project and being unwilling to start. It often is a matter of ’reframing’ the sitiuation in our minds.

Thank you so much for sharing!

Yes you did a thing ...or two! Nicely 'oomphed'!

I am now feeling the need to do a thing myself.

Thank you everyone for your kind words! I collected the photos over decades from yard sales and flea markets. Only one has someone I know in it -- my father in 1938 in the CCC.

The wallpaper is unpasted from Wayfair. I've done many wallpaper projects but never peel and stick, and I wasn't sure I wanted to try it. But now with unpasted you roll the paste directly onto the wall and then hang the paper -- no "booking". It was pretty easy but I'm glad I didn't have to do more than two strips.

Your before was still a very nice powder room, but the afters are just wonderful. Love that wallpaper!

I too hope you found another use for the round mirror. Maybe it wasn't right in the powder room but it's very nice.

Well done! I agree your decisions were not simple, but the outcome is elegant and lovely.

The narrowness of your powder room is similar to mine. About 3 feet wide?

That really looks fantastic. The before was fine but your new version is a real improvement. Love the wallpaper and it actually makes the room look wider. It's interesting that the black and white photos add so much warmth to the room.

My father was in the CCC and I inherited several of those large rectangular photos. I always wondered how he ended up with them because they certainly couldn't have been inexpensive to print.
