You need someone local as no one here knows how the house is constructed or what may be feasible. Location dependent are you prepared to spend 200K plus for this?

Going to be difficult to add a sensible addition to a home that is the shape of an airplane hangar.

The first consideration might be to use the area currently housing the garage and then adding a separate structure as a garage.

Without seeing the plan of the building, any suggestions are worthless because there is no way of knowing how the addition can tie into what is existing

You need an architect to know if this is even possible. You'll save some money if you have a set of the existing plans of the home.

Often, it is cheapest to use the garage, particularly if it has heat. If you don't have living space over your garage, you might be able to put a shed dormer in and end up with a usable second floor. A shed dormer facing left might keep most of the lines of your house. Much of the cost will depend on things like the foundation, the structural beams, where the plumbing and heating is, etc.

Your best bet is to figure out your budget and ask for a rough quote from builders.

I think black looks awful on almost all houses.

I suggest you hire an architect but in the meantime look at houses similar to yours online to create an idea book. Here's my idea... keeping the house in brown with black doors and trim.

Additions are tricky and need a good architect to make them look like they were always there .This style of house has real issues for additions I would probably do a garage conversion to the extra space and then maybe a carport . I happen to like black siding but eve a bigger issue for me is taht horrible landscaping that just does not work with the house .and all thta gravel is just not good . SO the addition Beverly posted is IMO all wrong for the house . So get a good architect who can provide good drawings of what is possible IMO right now if you want some help here we needt o see the whole house floor plan and info as to why an addition at all. Post all of that here in comments DO NOT START another post or we will lose you Houzz is having some issues .
