Chilean myrtle in the NW

Has anyone grown this lovely plant? Purchased last year from Dancing Oaks Nursery and currently planted in a pot. Still trying where to place in my yard.

I have two in my garden (zone 8b Willamette Valley OR) planted 10/9/21 and 7/20/22. Both doing quite well with moderate growth rate. They always grow quite late into the season and end up with some winter damage to the growing tips but so far have grown out of it vigorously. They bloomed and fruited heavily last summer, much less this summer (2024). My wife made jelly from the fruit last summer. Very unique flavor with that "menthol" character common to many Myrtaceae. Have you crushed and smelled a leaf? I also have seedlings growing beneath my plants. My plants are in bright sun and seem to like it. I've had a lot of my BLEs burning in sun lately but I don't think I've seen any sunburn on Luma.

Which species is this? I believe there are a couple of 'Chilean myrtles'.

zephyrgal - Would you be interested in a video on YouTube? If so, I could create a new video and post it on my channel. Let me know if you're interested. Otherwise, yes, I can take some photos and post them here. My channel: youtube.com/@JourneyGarden

floral - Yes, my plants are also Luma apiculata, from dancingoaks.com and whitmanfarms.com respectively.

There is also Chilean Guava - Ugni molinae, but I have not grown it.

zephyrgal - Here is the video. Eerily dry and sunny stretch of weather here in western Oregon, eh? Good for shooting videos!

A big thanks to artinnature for the myrtle tour. I also noted a few familar conifers, crptomeria, my favorite, and a sciadopities, sequoia pendula and plum yews (?) Did I see an Azara? I have a nice Azara in my back yard. Yes, this cold sunny weather is wearing on me. The brisk east winds blow across the Nehalem River into my yard and I'd rather be indoors looking out!

You're very welcome! I've been hesitant to go all "capitalistic" on this site, but if anyone here does enjoy my content over there, "like", "subscribe", "enable the notification bell" and posting comments all help me to continue to create and share.

Yes, two Cryptomeria, C. japonica - Elegans and Elegans Aurea, Sciadopitys Joe Cozey (also have Green Star in front), Sequoia Pendula (love it, fast!) three Cephalotaxus, three species of Azara...love them. A. serrata and A. dentata (there is a video) are new and this is their first winter, fingers crossed.

The weather is just weird. Starting to worry about lack of water in reservoirs next summer.

Art, do you remember where you got 'Joe Kozey'? I believe that is the correct spelling. Since The Bethlehem Nursery in CT closed down, any Sciadopitys cultivars are agonizingly hard to find, at least on the east coast.

Probably not going to do you any good, but I got Joe Kozey at a retail nursery in McMinnville Oregon - Kraemer's Garden.
