Suggestions for kitchen island

We have Venetian granite around the perimeter and cherry cabinets. Need to replace the island which currently has the same granite. Thinking of going with quartz. If anyone has similar color palettes in their kitchen and can share pics, or suggestions, would love to get a few ideas

I would not use a man made product in the same vicinity as a natural material. Look for Taj Mahal or similar stone.

If you replace the island, you need to replace the perimeter too. I hope that has steel brackets for it's support!

Quartz is 33% resin by volume. That's why it can scorch. Quartzite is a natural all stone material. Some resin can be used to fill.

If the new island is smaller than the current one, you could potentially cut down the piece you have.

I agree that mixing real granite and quartz is a bad idea.

Not planning to change the size or shape of the island. The granite on the island is broken at the seam and not fixable, and hard to find an exact match, so looking to replace just the island. Not opposed to replacing with granite again, looking for ideas on how to best match the existing countertop in the periphery

Again, find a complimentary natural stone. Quartz will not look good alongside real stone.

Stone is pretty fixable. If there is a crack, it can be epoxied back together until you are fully ready to gut the whole thing and start over. There's a LOT going on there that introducing something else into, will never be a wise use of money. Unless you can DIY a butcher block top that matches the cabinets, just leave it alone until the gut.

Yeah, that WAS fixable, when it first happened. To much time and separation and contamination has happened now. It's a safety hazard as is. I'd just remove it and do butcher block.

Sorry you have to deal with a gigantic crack.

I too am not usually a fan of mixing stone and man made, however, I'd try experimenting with solid Corian samples and seeing if you can make it look ok. I wouldn't suggest this for a new kitchen, but in THIS kitchen, it might be ok.

I like mixing stone and wood but think a large dark wood island is going to be like a big black hole in your kitchen.

Whatever you put on top of the island, add proper support so this doesn't happen again.

I think butcher block would look great.
