I’m looking to hang 3 pictures on this wall, side by side, along the top with floating shelves below to display knick knacks - not pictures on the shelves. I cant see any examples of this, only shelves with picture’s or scattered pictures like in image attached. Does anyone have any pics to see what this would be like? Thanks!

There is no rule you can't do that. But the artwork should be hung at eye level and in this layout the lower shelves would be too low.

The frames of the artwork should be spaced apart...not touching as you show.

Given the size of the wall, tiny shelves/nick nacks, and 3 small framed items…it’s not going to be a great look. It also won’t be easy to get spacing and therefore balance. Pinterest has lots of floating shelves ideas without pictures on them.

Suggest though more substantial shelves to create impact/balance/nicer focal wall and you’ll have greater flexibility to add/update. Your pictures will also work better on shelves given how small they are. Finally it will be easier to judge their placement.

Use tape to mock up the layout of everything on your wall and then play around with it.

Do you already have knick knacks in mind that are really meaningful to you that you want to see displayed or will you have to find objects to put on this wall? If the latter, then just hang pics and skip the shelves.

@tracefloyd thanks. Yes, the art work would be spaced a bit apart, this was just to give an idea. Do you think it would look ok if I have more shelves higher up across the wall wider than the width of the picture frames? How low is too low visuslly for shelves? Thanks so much!

@Maureen thanks! I already have these shelves so looking to reuse these. I have some more of the larger ones shown so I could omit the smaller ones and just use the larger ones - would that help? I’ve found loads of floating shelf pictures but none with picture frames hung above them (not on shelf) - did you find any images like that?

@Kendrah good idea, thanks! Yes my daughter alteady has knick knacks to display. She was planning on putting them on these cubes but she’s filled these up already!

@Lyn Nielson thanks! I did think about putting the shelves together to make one long shelf and put that high, near top of door height but my daughter wouldn't be able to reach them. Have you seen any examples of shelves above pictures you could share?

I would not put shelves with knick knacks above the framed art, on the sides, yes, or underneath, on top is too high.

you could hang the larger frame centered at eye level, choose a shelf to place centered at eye level, the stack the other two with the space between the two stacked at eye level. I can't find an example of small shelves like yours, you'll just have to esperiment.

arrange them on the floor and transfer the idea to the wall.

What will you be placing underneath the gallery arrangement?

@Lyn Nielson thanks! I wasn't planning on putting anything under them, it would just be open below it. We already have stuff along the other walls. Unless you can think of something take doesn’t tske up a lot of space??
