You could tack up a chair rail the perimeter of the room, the height of the headboard, and paper below it as wallpaper wainscotting.

Command hooks for the backpacks maybe up in the loft?

Use removable wallpaper on the wall behind the shelves of toiletries next to the ladder. It has a definite shape, so it is obvious where to stop.

Put the backpacks on Command hooks (as tracefloyd suggested) above the dresser- two rows of six.

When she is ready to let go of things that she has no interest in anymore, she can sell or donate them.

I would paint the ceiling a dark color in her coconut girl vibe colors (Aqua?)

Hang long sheer panels above the windows. I would wallpaper the window wall and the loft railing wall (where there is a definite break) Paint the other walls a color that she likes. I would try the bed whee the dresser is now, so you have a good wall for display.

Wow! So many great recommendations!!! We are planning on “de-junking” her room today and only keeping things she really truly loves (she’s sentimental so it’s hard) but she wants to do it so I’m happy to help her! I’m excited to show her these ideas!

I would do a wainscot panel design using the loft as a break point then do wall paper as the insert on the lower panels.

Does she use the backpacks or just wants to display them? I would hang them off the bottom of the loft or do a nice display over the dresser.

Is there room to have the bed run off the window wall? Add some draperies and wallpaper the doors.

I would not go through a lot of expensive trim adding or multi-color painting since the room will become a guest room in two years. Removable wallpaper on a small area that can be easily reached and changed is much more in tune with the change in two years. Professionals on scaffolding or high ladders are always expensive.

There are only so many special features one room needs to have. This room has many of them arleady - 16 ft ceilings, a wall of lights, a loft, and a major attraction bed. Trim in here is complete overkill and just does not fit this style of architecture.

The wall trim trend and the coconut girl trend will be over just in time for you to convert this into a guest room. So limit the trendiness to things that can be easily and inexpensively done.

She has a cool bed, cool, chair, a fridge, and a loft. That is pretty amazing right there.

Use removable wallpaper to decorate the short wall where the shelving unit is. Get great coconut girl vibe bedding. Hang her bags on command hooks above the dresser. Call it a day!

PS - I'd want to drape the bed frame with some gauzy fabric to make it feel like a beach bed vibe.
