Seems like the logical place for a sideboard or credenza. What do you need to store?

Measurements would help, and better yet a measured layout of the room. How wide is the space? How much space is currently between the table and the wall? Do you ever anticipate having a chair at that end of the table?

Regarding styles, it would help to have some pictures of adjoining spaces so we know more about your style.

noting the dark fireplace surround and medium wood in the dining set and floor as shown...I would go to white due to the trim and window grids and apparent nice generous size of window. keeps it light and fresh..... non competing w your two wood tones thus far.

Get graph paper and calculate inches of width and depth and plug in display/ bookcase section/ lower hinged cabinet/ counter area / etc.... its not clear how much space for foot traffic. use blue tape for trials. I think a white area could be nice.

You may want to consider tall, closed storage instead of incorporating shelving that has to be styled. That look often adds visual clutter and reduces storage. Here is just one example, though the color may not be right for your home. Good price, though! This first image is using two units.

Start with what you want to store. How much volume does that require?

Then with if you want to get a countertop too - either for function (toaster? coffee machine?) or for form (display pictures, books?).

And if you want to use the wall space for something.

Also do you want something unobtrusive, or something striking. If the latter, you’ll have to decide what you think looks good, find inspo pics, etc.

Well, that looks like your dining area, right? Then maybe a sideboard with drawers (for table linens, silverware, plates, etc) and a useful top (for serving food buffet-style), in a wood and general style consistent with what I assume is your dining table and chairs. Then an wall-hung print or mirror in a nice frame over it.

That will be simple, useful, pretty inexpensive, can be done in a day, and isn’t permanent so you can change it later.

Our dining room has a sideboard, built-ins with counter, and a window bump-out with large counter. All that surface is super useful, especially for parties, dinners, etc.
