Recommendations on LVP for Rental

last year

Previously installed Optimax from F&D in a separate vacation rental without any issues 2+ years out. However, it seems I may have been one of the lucky ones. The complaints online are numerous and it’s giving me second thoughts on installing it in our next project.

Wear level is important. The floor will be in a vacation rental with sand, pets, and frankly, guests on holiday. This alone is why I previously chose Optimax. It passed the knife test with flying colors.

Aesthetically, I really like the realistic ”artisan edge” bevel. The exact oppsosite of the flat, painted bevel that looks like plastic imo. I saw a sample of Nucore’s Hidden Cove and absolutely loved the look of the curved edge, but now would rather steer clear of the big box stores.

Looking online, I found Responsive Artisan Edge SPC flooring. This is definitely what I’m going for, but still researching quality and wearability.

I’d love some recommendations on which brands I should be checking out. TIA!

How about a tile floor? Emser makes this BUILDING BLOCKS wood-look tile, for example.

@wdccruise Tile is indeed a great option! I have a high end wood look tile on the entire main floor of my current home and absolutely love how it looks. We have super tight grout lines in black to mimic the shadow lines of hardwood planks and it really does look realistic.

That being said, I don’t like how easily it can chip and break if something drops. Ours has been installed for about 7 years now and we’ve had 2 party fouls in the kitchen area. Usually a glass or jar from the fridge is the culprit. It’s also so uncomfortable underfoot.

We recently installed LVP upstairs (cannot recall brand, but higher end) and, while beautiful, it has many scratches from our dogs.

We also used Optimax a couple of years ago in a cabin and loved how it has held up thus far. Scared of all the issues I’m seeing from this company, though.

I just don’t know where to start with the LVP. So many companies out there.

The Shaw Brookside Bordeaux did well in CR's tests. It's discontinued but there are several other Shaw floorings at Home Depot that have the same characteristics. Owners seem to like them and they're cheap. Note that the vinyl floors tested by CR had low-to-medium resistance to scratches.

@Lago Flooring Inc Thank you for the info. Do any of your products have the artisan or pillow type bevel? I’m looking for something with that type of edge as it’s much more realistic looking imo. Thanks!
