Why? Why do you want to change it? What is your goal?

Because it is already stained and sealed, its a huge job to restain it. You would have to remove all of the old finish, to restain (every last spot of it). I would paint it. Its still a bit of work, but, it is much less work, and time, to paint. You will need to treat it like you would have to do for kitchen cabinet painting. Clean it well, with tsp, or something similar. Remove the hardware and make sure you mark the doors and drawers, along with the hardware, so you can put them back on the same doors and drawers. amd in same location on the island. Then it needs to be sanded well, and wiped down really well, so no dust, etc. If there are any nicks, now is the time to fill them. Once that is done and sanded, then it needs to be primed with a good quality sealing bonding primer (I use oil based). You may have to lightly sand the primer, but, that doesnt take all that long. Then two or possibly 3 coats of the black paint. The paint needs to be cabinet type paint, not regular paint. Take your time, and work slowly. Wait until it has dried a day beyond what the cabinet paint takes to dry, and put your hardware all back on, and put drawers in, and doors back. on.

Since it is stained material you would need to lightly sand the top coat and use an appropriate primer for it to last. A paint store should be able to advise on particulars.
