Not sure if this marble mosaic backsplash will work?

This is bar we have in our family room. Originally I wanted to tear out the upper cabinets to freshen up our bar-replacing with the marble tile backsplash going all the way up (back splash I like shown here), plus having a carpenter make a couple floating wood shelves & add a couple brass wall mounted lights above shelves.

Now I’m thinking this job would just get to complex for me & would have to involve drywall work, electrical, tear out & install new crown molding, repainting etc etc, so rather than go this route, I’m thinking of just putting in new backsplash, new knobs & pulls, then just add some new & fresh decor atop the existing quartz countertop.

Question- this backspash pictured-comes in 14 1/4”x14 1/4” sheets-the existing backsplash area measures 19”x54”. Would this backsplash size with its scale & design work for back splash area? & can tile guy adhere this mosiac tile direct to my existing glass tile vs tearing out existing backsplash? Also heres pic of our family room that our bar is in. Thanks for any input- I appreciate!

No help here, but I prefer your existing backsplash. It also coordinates well with your fireplace surround.

The scale of the tile you like is too large for that area. You wouldn't be able to see much repeat and it would be odd.

Have you thought about painting the bar and changing the hardware? The blue and the handles look more traditional than the rest of the room and you might like it more with updated color and hardware.

I don't know the scale of the tiles you're considering but nevertheless I prefer the tiles you have not that coordinate well with your fireplace and decor.

I also prefer the tiles you already have. They go nicely with the fireplace and the rest of your decor. I wouldnt change anything on the bar cabinet, if it were me. It all looks very nice already.

The scale of the newer tile appears to large for the area. I think the shape and layout of the existing tile suits the space better.

Also Beverly-please disregard my request to you to clarify. im on my cell phone having made this Houzz post & i can see that you photoshopped the mosiac backsplash to my bar area that is helpful to me for a visual. I missed it at 1st🤓 Thanks! I dont think this tile will work for my space- too large a design

Given the room’s style and color scheme, I’d paint in a heartbeat to better suit, update hardware to brass to coincide with rest of room, and reconsider how it is accessorized. If you don’t have lighting, consider adding under cabinet or a small lamp. Other ideas: hang wineglasses, glue a mirror over the tiles if you want more of a change.

Hi Maureen-pretty inspiration photo you show here!; however I prefer to not have to paint my bars cabinetry because I like the bars pop of color in my family room plus it ties in with my kitchens island cabinet color- although I definitly like the idea of switching out the tone of my bars hardware as well as switching up my decor atop bars quartz counterop. Still would like to switch out bars backsplash- I’d prefer much lighter colored marble design (but smaller scale design) so backsplash stands out more in bar- I’m in no hurry for this but will keep my eyes peeled👀👀👀

Better picture to get a sense and I think new hardware would do the trick.

You might want to consider a sleek and modern stone look.

Good morning & happy Friday from drizzly Southern California! Hope your day is off to a great one.

Based upon my existing paint color on bar, I’d love to see your hardware style & tone suggestions for my bar space as well as what backsplash you think would fit best based upon pictures I’ve shown here in my post. If I change the bars hardware tone, more than likely I’d change my hardware on family rooms entertainment center & perhaps kitchen island lighting & hardware to match bars hardware tone since these rooms flow together.

    I love seeing your input.

Couple more close up shots of existing hardware & island lighting for reference

I think it looks so well coordinated as is. It is lovely and flows with your fireplace. The color of the bar is a beautiful pop of color. I wouldn't change a thing!

Seems I'm in the minority, but I love the new mosaic tile you picked out. While the pattern scale is larger, I frequently see top designers incorporating similar scaled patterns in smaller spaces for a pop of texture and personality. Your existing herringbone tile is nice, but a bit too "safe" a choice by comparison. This is a bar, which is a great spot for more of a "statement backsplash." Your mosaic is still subdued in coloration, but more fun in design! The mosaic also blends well with some of the traditional elements in your room; an ultra sleek slab, to me, would be far too contemporary (as well as plain boring).

Well said Lane- I completely agree! Although since making my post- I’ve come to realize the scale of this mosaic tile that appealed to me as I posted here; is just to large for my space.

In time I hope to find preferably a pretty marble tile, maybe with a touch of bling for my little backsplash bar area that’ll stand out to give my bar a lil pizazz!

You've made the bar distinct with it being the only cabinetry with blue uppers - but the herringbone that serves as backsplash in the rest of the kitchen - doesn't carry enough visual weight. Also these cabinets are recessed so the depth of blue is heftier. I'd like to see vertical beveled mirrored tiles that would reflect this extra depth.. The tile I'm thinking of (2x8 with pointed ends) could also "reflect" an ambiance more conducive to a bar, plus add to its distinction from the kitchen.

Deborah Kenny-I concur with what you state; I’d love to find another backsplash different from that of my kitchens, so the bars backsplash can stand out on its own in a special way, adding a touch of pizazz.

I’ll be visiting some tile establishments when I can fit it in to my schedule to see what might work for my space.

Any chance you have a picture of the tile you describe? I'd love to see it! I like your suggestion of installing tile vertically ; would lend to the appearance of better height for my backsplash's space.

Mozaico Inc thanks for your input & I now realize this too.

Do you know if its possible to install new tile over the existing backsplash tile?
