O daylilies 2025

last year
last modified: last year

We finish the week with O daylilies. Please show us what you have.

The first three pictured are all late bloomers.

Orchid Corsage, an oldie that does well here. It stays because it is a late, can’t have enough of those.

Ollalie Keith had been here a short time. It is due for an increase, not much so far🤞🏻.

Olfactory Evidence is my latest bloomer. Bloom time last season was a bit early, guessing the weather was the reason since I remember last season blooming being generally compacted.

Orange Smoothie, my second attempt and doing well. This is 2023 photo. In my photos the past season the color was really off.

    SHERRY: Orange Smoothie looks great.

OUR FRIEND OLIN: Wonderfully ruffled diploid.

Once Over Lightly: An older Bennett intro. Looks great when at clump strength.

OUTRAGEOUS: An attention getter in the garden.

That is all I have to contribute to this letter.

Sherry, I'm guessing you got Olallie Keith from Celeste. It is very pretty; I hope it increases for you. Is it very late?

David, Our friend Olin is my favorite of these.

Sherry, Orchid Corsage is always so pretty in your photos! And blooming late can indeed be a bonus. I am glad you got another Orange Smoothie because your first one was always stunning.

David, I can see how Outrageous would garner attention, especially in clump form.

    Not many Os for me.

Orange Blossom Trail is pretty but blooms short and has not multiplied well for me. It gets lost being in the middle of some tall plants

Orange Velvet is one I really like. Even when it fades in hot sun, I like the color fade

October Fest is a sprawler as you can see

    Ocean Spirit

Old Mount Vernon is an older one I still like for a near white

Here is Orange Velvet after a run in with afternoon western sun

Kate, your Orange Velvet has more color than mine. Mine may get a little too much sun. Perhaps I need to move it. Orange Blossom Trail is very pretty and I love the form. Too bad it isn't a better plant.

Brad, Orange Velvet only gets afternoon sun. It is in shade until then. I think that helps with the color!!

Kate - Ocean Spirit is one I will miss. I left it behind, as I did all dips except Rainbow Maker. It has darker color for you than it did in my garden.

Sherry - I'm always drawn to your photos of Olfactory Evidence - wish I could smell its fragrance.

David - That's quite a clump of Outrageous!

I no longer possess any O's. These were the best of my O's from last year:

Once Bitten Twice Shy had lovely color but no teeth early in the season when it was cool. Later blooms in extreme heat had plenty of teeth but washed out color.

Ocean Spirit didn't get enough sun but was multiplying pretty well.

Almost missed this one. Ocean Spirit is a UF I've always liked. And I also like Our Friend Olin.

A new one last year. I liked the pattern. We will see how it does this year.

    Online Shopper:

I really enjoy this daylily. Unusual color and consistently good flower form with plenty of blooms most years. It surprised the heck out of me this year reblooming in August. I always like seeing yours Sherry to compare.

Orange Smoothie - This is from the rebloom. The color on all the re-blooms was more saturated for some reason.

Maryl - I like the saturated color on Orange Smoothie. Yours always looks darker in color than Sherry's.

Kate - Your Orange Blossom Trail is lighter than other photos I've seen. It sort of looks like a polychrome in your picture.

Once Over Lightly--I too like the white midrib. Orange Velvet is nice, but a bit of a space hog here. O'Bannon Orchid looks interesting. Are the scapes strong on this diploid?

Omega Red is a tall bloomer with large flowers.

One for Steve did well in 2023, but wasn't memorable in 2024. Blooms just above the foliage.

One Last Dance was quite attractive last summer. Here it catches the morning rays.

Another pic later in the day. Some sneer at those who still relish Moldovans. Since they usually grow vigorously, the price is too low for some. I remember one person haughtily noting on Facebook: "I don't buy anything for less than $50."

Origins of Totalitarianism. I think Curt chose this name because it is hard to pronounce.

Not the best pic of Ocean Spirit. Scapes are quite strong, and it is well budded.

Once and for All --This Korth will have to grow a lot.

One for Steve and One Last Dance are my favorites.

I think the snobby attitude regarding price and the need to have the latest and "greatest" Are quite immature.

Another enabling photo of Ocean Spirit. I am resolved not to bite this year (I hope).....Origins of...is pretty. Hanson seems to like politicizing the garden. I go to the garden to get away from such things not think about it even more. Each to their own in the garden however.......Maryl

With its height, Ocean Spirit probably is not good as a pot subject. Several flowers open at once on a scape can also produce some leaning, though not like in some diploids.

Thanks Mantis. Stabbing stakes in a root filled pot is not ideal for the health of a daylily.........Maryl
