Magenta Magic Rose from J&P

I just got my Spring 2025 Jackson & Perkins catalog in the mail, and on page 15 is a new release, it says a 2025 introduction, called Magenta Magic. Now I love Magenta, and I love a white or light reverse, and the photo is absolutely gorgeous - basically my ideal rose, but the size on HMF says 2.75 inch / catalog says 3 inch, and the petal count says 35 on the catalog. These photo promotions… it looks like easily 65-80 petals in the photo! Bred by Bedard. When the photo doesn’t match the description!

It looks 35 to me. Believe me, if it were 60 or so the info would be there enthusiastically proclaiming it!

It appears to be in the miniflora class, and if it is lock solid disease free, it is a winner. So few minifloras are. Same with minis....black spot magnets in high numbers in both classes. Such a sadness for such otherwise vigorous, steady blooming machines. Fragrance is also very lacking in these two classes.

Echo , that is a pretty rose!!

You say you like magenta , have you tried powerpuff pink ? I saw it for sale but I wanted to to see its blooms in person first before committing.

I wanted to try J and p new intro “ hummingbird” and I also wanted to try like no other after reading excellent reviews here but when I went to pull the trigger hummingbird had sold out . Next year I’ll be quicker !

I agree with Moses, the blooms in those pics look like about 35 petals to me, too.

Ben and Moses, thank you for your clarity. I have actually counted petals on some of mine to see if it actually is what it is advertised to be, and I have usually been very surprised that it’s always more than I am thinking it is.

I have heard great things about PowerPuff Pink! The only reason I have not bought it, is because to me, it looks too similar to my Gabriel Oak, which has been very vigourous in growth, healthy leaves, strong scent, and great flowering. If they looked similar but the one I had did not perform so well, I would try something similar as a replacement. My interest in this one is primarily the silver reverse with the magenta. I also posted recently about Mauvelous. There is always something that has the look but doesn’t make the grade as far as size of bloom, health or vigour.

Lily, I’m sorry you missed out on Hummingbird, I will have to look that one up. I do hope you try LNO, I have loved that one! I’d be curious to see how it does for you!

Echo, I have both PowerPuff Pink and Gabriel Oak and they are very different roses in my garden.
