last year

I was reading that it's roughly about 10 weeks . The thing is if I"m still looking for contractor to kitchen remodel . What's the average time to finish the remodel of the kitchen?

How long is a piece of string? Sorry…not funny. The variables are endless. A friend expected to be in her new kitchen now…and it will be April as least.

No way 10 weeks, unless they are the type of contractor that will order and store every item that is needed and will only start when he has everything. Most don't operate this way and aren't that organized. And you still don't know if there will be surprises like bad plumbing, electrical or old water/termite damage.

I would say 6 months and be very happy if it is close to that.

During our kitchen remodel we found some termite damage that led to an exterior kitchen wall having to be rebuilt and we also had to tent/fumigate the house. Lots more time and money!

^^^Yup. You find all sorts of suprises when you start opening up walls…termites, carpenter ants, dry rot, you name it. Any of these things can delay a reno.

Patience, and adaptability will help keep your sanity.

for me, 8 weeks for a small kitchen with a few layout changes and adjacent projects, where nothing went wrong and everything (almost!) was ordered and arrived ahead of time. That is 8 weeks of active work - AFTER the plans, engineer, permits, cabinets ordered and countertop slab selected...

And of course the trick that good contractors are usually booked months out.

It depends on your definition. Our first kitchen remodel started with meeting with a local custom cabinet maker in February; in March we finalized plans and I paid a deposit to get on the calendar - in July. The counters were installed in early September.

Last year were did a more extensive remodel (in a different house), including hardwood floors. I used the same cabinet maker - signed the contract mid-May. Floors were completed the end of August; cabinets installed mid-September (but one of the cabinets was wrong, so that was re-built and replaced the first week in October). The project was completed the end of October.

Inspections can also slow things down. Sometimes, work stops because you can't move to the next steps until after inspection approval.
