Pergola re-staining project

I am re-staining my pergola. We are going to use Sherwin Williams brand. Shoud

I use Woodscapes or SuperDeck? Also, should I use semi-transparent orsolid stain? Thanks for your input.

depends on the look you are after.

Have you already cleaned it all?

sometimes you get inconsistent color on a re do with a transparent.

The solid should cover every imperfection.

Solid Stain will end up looking more like a paint and you will not see the wood grain thru it. It's cedar, I would use a clear sealant myself.

No need for super deck since it’s not a deck. Clear versus solid is up to you. Are you trying to keep it the same color?

I would go semi-transparent as close to the current pergola color as possible. We have a large pergola and in 10 years I've reapplied the transparent stain 3 times, it's a maintenance nightmare. We're in SC and the sun really gives it a beating. Can't wait to remove it.

I would like it to be a little more brown with less red. I would still like it to look natural so was thinking semi-transparent might be better. I just wasn’t sure if it would cover old stain evenly.

IMO always nice to have some context so pics of the house and oergola toghtehr is IMO the way to decide color . Post here in a comment DO NOT start another post

We had the cedar stain at first with semi-transparent I applied once to keep the cedar look. Then when it was time to stain again, I went with transparent to change the color and it took 3 coats to get the tan color! And probably not as nice looking now so I regret it. Just sharing how these turned out to be helpful.
