I’m not sure about this gray chair? I have several adult men who would likely be more comfortable in a wider chair.

I like a simple wood chair with a big seat, not a straight back.

I agree about the chair that you've included. It doesn't look comfortable + it reminds me of old office furniture (also like waiting room furniture for a doctor's office). Plus, the table looks like it "deserves" nicer looking chairs!

Consider how the rug and accessories can set the tone in room and pull everything together.

The chairs you posted do not suit the style of the table nor the wood tone. If you're replacing the area rug, start with that as you'll be able to coordinate chair upholstery with the new rug. Post more pictures when you have found your rug and how the dining room relates to adjoining rooms for style and colour scheme.

I love the look of the trestle table, but thought it would be easier if I could find a dining room table/ chairs set that I like.
So many of the sets have cream upholstered chairs. Hopefully if I start with the rug and table, I will be able to find good chairs.

I’d actually start with the chairs, as they will be the harder decision and harder to find. As well, 8-10 chairs is going to get costly, so don’t narrow down options due to rug choice.

Hi. I would strongly recommend that you don't try to match the two woods. This almost never can go well! Pick a chair with a lighter wood tone, so it look more neutral. Add a rug of your style with grey beige blue tones, art in the wall and brushed gold lighting if you planning to change this too. In my opinion you should first pick the chair matching with the table you like and then add the rug. It is easier to purchase a rug that will match the setting of your already selected furniture. Usually you pick first the main elements of the room and then the "background". Of course you can always pick a set of table and chairs and make your life a lot easier :-)

The chairs you posted are so different style wise. It’s important to decide on the room’s direction/outcome, in addition to what works with the table (which I don’t think these do). Be sure to purchase one chair that can be returned, especially if buying on line and look into return fees. Quality is a big factor and without seeing, you can’t tell and also read reviews.

I love the trestle table. I would stick with it. The chairs you just showed the last ones look very nice.

FWIW we have an old home with a formal DR, bought super comfy velvet chairs and we hang out so much in that room (dinner every nite, drinks, cards etc)

If it were me, I would slow down a bit and figure out what you’re looking for -

I would check out Facebook marketplace and see what in-person options are available to you so you can sit in the chair. It is not a small purchase, it would be worth making a drive

There are pics of my 1st floor after recent renovation. Unfortunately some items, like light fixtures had to be picked before there was a design plan for the room. I think my style is transitional- I want comfortable, welcoming - not too modern or traditional.
We use this dining room just occasionally when all of my adult kids/ spouses are here for dinner. Or with a big group of friends.
