Could use some help here! Fireplace and Hearth Design

We are replacing the mantle surround and tile around our fireplace and hearth ( and redecorating this entire room, flooring will be replaced with medium engineered wood).

The mantle will be changed out, but same basic style (mantle shelf with legs), but update, and in a medium or medium light stained wood.

The tile for around the face of the fireplace opening is a creamy white slightly variegated small ledge stone look tile (see pic.. black arrows are pointing where that tile will go).

The “bench/seat” area - which is 13+ feet long - will be a will be soapstone in an unoiled dark charcoal color.

The question is……what should I face the lower portion of the hearth bench/seat area with?
Should I continue the charcoal soapstone to the face of the hearth as well (see white arrows) or should I use the white ledgstone in that area?

This below if all the surfaces are the tile.

This below if you combine the tile with soapstone on the hearth step.

I think that the white tile might be too much of a contrast with the floor and soapstone. This whole plan seems a little busy to me. Could you mock this up with fabric or paper in the colors that you will use?

My fireplaces have the sort of ledge that you have. But, everything is the same marble, not so many different colors.

And Yvonne, I think you’re right….a bit busy. Our initial thought was a wood mantle ( but more updated. Less traditional), however, now I think we should do a light (creamy/beigy) stone surround and soapstone on the whole hearth.

Appreciate the input!
