Chewy............

Chewy is a terrific vendor for pet stuff. I hadn't been there in a while so when I showed up online they gave me a coupon, $20 off a purchase of $49 or more. If you haven't visited for a while maybe they will do the same for you.

I don't order often but the last time I did, they sent me a free bag of assorted dog treats. But their supposedly "non-destructible" dog toys are not :-) If it squeaks at all, it will be in shreds within an hour!!

We have no dog right now, but when we hd our last puppy, I'd get the monthly Bark Box, and there was a Super strong option for heavy duty chewers. Those toys lasted. When we lost Kesey, we had a whole collection of soft squeaky toys up on the top of the bookshelves in every room.

I get both prescription cat food and litter from Chewy. I appreciate how easy it is to reschedule autoships. When Bessie died they were very kind and compassionate.

I order cat food from Chewy What I like best is my orders come in 2 or 3 days. I don't know where they have warehouses, but it's super fast for me.

I love Chewy. I not only get my dog food on auto ship but also buy most meds through them. I started with them when supply chain issues hit the dog food industry. Was so tired of having to go to different stores searching for dog food. Then when my Rottie needed her special kidney diets and the other two were on kibble it saved me so much time. I put the Doodles on a less expensive kibble while I had so many vet and food costs for the Rottie but switched them back to the premium stuff now that she is gone.

Best part about Chewy is when you phone you get a human being in two rings and they're competent and knowledgeable.

I’ve never checked them out. I will now.

I get a monthly order from Chewy. There use to be a doggy store here in town that carried the healthy dog snacks and turkey tenders I give my dog-but they stopped selling them, so now Chewy gets my business. I do take advantage of every promotion they have-when offered.

I have an excellent pet store in town, so I don't need to order anything. Good to know Chewy is a good vendor, though -- never know when might need something can't get locally.

Quite some time ago -- probably 20 years or so -- I used to order from Drs. Foster & Smith, first from the catalog then from the website. They've since sold but back when they were independent they were excellent. Maybe they still are IDK -- like I said I have no need to order anything.

Chewy is owned by a private equity firm. I give my business to my local pet store instead. BUT, when my local store doesn't carry something, like a special leash or collar, I order from Chewy.

Another Chewy fan! I use their autoship for the wet food my kitties will eat and greenies for the dogs. We have a new local pet store that carries the dogs’ dry food - yippee! The cats’ dry food is not available on Chewy or at the local store- so that is a once a month trip to a bigger town. Fussy cats!

I've used Chewy for years and now that Carmelita is on a prescription food, I like getting it from them. It comes pretty quick and I don't have to go to the vet to get it anymore. They didn't always have it readily available so that became a problem for me.

Also when I had Rocket (cat), Fred and Carmelita, it was great just getting everything from one place at one time. After Rocket passed, one of their employees painted a picture of Rocket sitting in a Chewy box! I had posted a picture of him doing that on their Facebook page a few years earlier. They are so thoughtful and kind.

I'm very lucky. My local pet store delivers my dog food to me for free, usually within a half hour of me calling!

After we lost our sweet Pepper, I had to cancel her autoship order. Chewy sent flowers from a local florist and removed charges from the last order. As they suggested, I donated it to our Humane Society.

I used to get from the local Pet's Mart. They quit carrying most of his cans. I now order from Chewey, no problem. (By the way, Pet's Mart and Chewey are owned by the same company, but Pet's Mart carries much less items).

    I agree. Love Chewy.

" Chewy is owned by a private equity firm. I give my business to my local pet store instead. "

No, this isn't the case. Chewy's stock is publicly traded on the NY Stock Exchange. If you own any mutual funds or are a participant in a pension plan, you might be an owner yourself.

The retail pet market is a very competitive one. Chewy, PetSmart, and Petco being the biggest players (I believe). I know someone who's at a management level at one of them and I periodically hear from him in our conversations that he and his company's competitors need to fight like cats and dogs to do well.

(Sorry, he uses other terms, I thought it might be cute to use an animal one)

That's true. The way I understand it, PetSmart is owned by a private equity firm, but Chewy is publicly traded. I really can't stand PetSmart. Their prices in store are always higher than online, and it's a total pain to have to look each item up on my phone so they can price match it. OTOH, Chewy has always been great to shop at and great customer service. If something comes damaged in shipping they'll send you a new order and tell you to donate the old to a shelter. I volunteer at a shelter and we get so many donations this way.

I love Chewy too. When my daughter's cat died , they sent her flowers. I used to buy dog food and flea meds from them and I got a big coupon from them since I hadn't ordered because the dogs died. I ordered bags of cat food that I usually pick up while out shopping, so I use Chewy sporadically.

Two things triggered my response - first, knowing that Chewy was a public company and, second, sniffing the aroma that that the writer thought that there was something wrong with private equity funds. Some even use the term as an intended pejorative, as some do with the word "corporation"

To shed a little light, what is the source of money of the evil investors in private equity funds? Not exclusively, but it includes:

    - Endowments of universities, non-profit organizations, foundations, etc., who need a wide range of diversity in their portfolios for safety. Perhaps the alma maters of readers or their kids have such investments. It's likely.

    - Pension funds, for the same reason. Perhaps the long-term investments of the fund you do or you will receive a pension from is included. So, the investor is you!

    - Insurance companies, who need to safely invest premiums because those form the source of customer insurance claims. Maybe your insurer is included?

Another thing to keep in mind about evil (not) private equity funds is that when they make an investment, they typically have to pay a premium above market value to do so. Often these are companies whose operating results are in decline and their stock prices are down. The individual investors (you and me directly or through mutual funds) of such companie receive higher than market value to sell their shares.

    You get the picture.

Mimou, we had a similar experience when we lost our lab and canceled an order. Our vet had recommended Chewy for meds and other supplies. I haven't been using them with our current dog simply because I haven't needed to order to get what she has needed, but I would use them again.

Annie, when the pandemic hit, we had an autoship for some food but we were combining it with home cooked food for our senior dogs, Our former vet insisted that our lab needed a prescription diet, even after the specialty vet clinic did not confirm his diagnosis. She wouldn't eat it and if she got hungry enough to try it, it all came back up. We would have lost her much sooner if we had followed him. I was worried more about her than us -- we could do a lot with beans and rice, but she needed meat. We bought a side of beef when our CSA farmer offered it. Was a one time thing, but we knew we had it. Towards the end, she seemed to prefer lamb and then only turkey -- but we had beef! We all ate well, if not quite what we had planned.

    Chewy ships quick too!

i've ordered from chewy for many years. they have the best customer service! my only complaint, and this isn't chewy's fault, is that i wish they used a different shipping company. fedex is notorious for driving around for days with my stuff in the truck "out for delivery" before it's finally delivered. they often leave my dog food at the neighbor's house down the road a couple of miles. no matter how many times i've complained to fedex, it still happens.

" fedex is notorious for driving around for days with my stuff in the truck "out for delivery" before it's finally delivered. "

Interesting, that "notoriety" is very different where I am. That hasn't been my experience with FedEx at all. UPS might run "the tightest ship in the shipping business" but FedEx's reputation in my area is the same.

Ninapearl, where I am located, Fedex is probably the most reliable delivery overall. UPS and USPS vary, especially at the holidays. If you haven't, you might want to call Fedex customer service let them know about problems you have been having so they might look into the source of the problems and do something to resolve them. Even if you have, if it is continuing, I'd call/write again. If you don't see improvement, talk to Chewy about the option to use a different carrier. Small companies may have only one cost effective option, but Chewy is large enough they should be able to have options when needed.

UPS never fails me. i don't recall ever not getting a UPS shipment on time. USPS service out here is dismal, at best. i think a lot of the problems with fedex is that it's never the same delivery person. i live on a private lane as far out in the boonies as you can get. however, i've been here for 28 years. 🤷🏻‍♀️

i have talked to chewy about this and was told that since they are contracted with fedex, a different delivery service cannot be used. i just have to make sure my dog food supply is sufficient for a week when i get ready to order more plus i am now ordering 2 bags at a time. running out of dog food is NOT an option with my 2 giant hooligans!

Chewy is a blessing! We feed a colony of feral cats on our driveway and have 6 indoor cats, all culled from the colony.

We have several autoships with Chewy.

Every 5 months: 144 cans of food for the colony

Every 5 months: 180 cans of food for the inside cats

Every 9 weeks: 160 pounds of litter

Every 12 weeks: 76 pounds of dry food for the colony

Every 12 weeks: 88 pounds of dry food for the inside cats

I used to check lots of places to make sure I was getting the best prices, but found that Chewy consistently beat or matched prices of all the other places I've checked. Autoship also gives me 5% discount and free shipping.

I get an email from them a few days before they ship, which gives me time to make changes (add toys or treats, etc.), or check my stash and change the date.

The best part is that the boxes are delivered to my driveway and stacked on the dolly my husband has left at the garage door. At 73 years of age, that is a huge blessing.

Not necessary, but a sweet perk, is that I can create a profile for each cat with their picture and details. When one passes away, I get a sympathy card. I get birthday cards too. I received a sweet little watercolor painting of Rina. Sounds like a very small thing, but it touched me.
